View Full Version : Advice on release of my two grey squirrels

My two grey squirrels are about 14 weeks now, ive had them since about 5-6 weeks. My question is about releasing them. Since its almost October here in Wisconsin and starting to get cold I'm concerned about their release here as they have had a very sheltered life so far. My home also has a lot of stray cats so I dont think its a suitable release location. I was going to keep them until spring but I had another thought. In December we go on vacation to Florida every year for 3 weeks. I know that you arnt supposed to move them along ways from where they were born but can't help but think life might be a lot easier for them in florida finding food and not having the stress of winter. Any thoughts on moving them from Wisconsin to Florida? Sorry for such a long post. I really just want them to have the best life possible. Thanks in advance.

Personally I wouldn't think it's a good idea. My understanding is the greys in Florida are much smaller structured then those up North.
The best life scenario in my opinion would be in their own natural habitat. If they were my babies I would definitely over winter for a release in spring.
