like i said we found 3 baby squirrels and one was pretty good, but the other two had tons of flies on them. and they all had fleas. i calmed them down and then applied a flea spray to a cotton ball and swabbed them down thoroughly. i then used a fine comb to dig out all the eggs that were in their fur. two of them seem pretty calm but the smallest one keeps itching really hard. i have formula that ive fed them all maybe a quarter tbsp each so far. i cleaned out a cage that i also deloused with the spray and scrubbed out with detergent then filled with clean bedding and a t shirt. im worried because the smallest one is itching and squirming. any suggestions would be awesome. im really worried. they look about 4-5 weeks old.

Hi Patrick,

In the morning go to pet smart or a farm store and get capstar. That will take care of fleas and it sounds like they have fly eggs in their coat. You have to work extremely hard to make sure you get every last egg off of them or it will turn into a maggot. Maggots search for ways to go internally and eat the baby from the inside out. Look up their nose, in their ears, in their mouth, and at their anus.

Before you give more formula, please provide them with hydration fluid, like pedialyte or a home made hydration fluid made of 2 cups water 1 tbsp sugar, and 1/2 tps of salt. Warm up fluid or formula before giving it to them. They need to be weighed in grams so we can help estimate amts of formula and rehydration fluid. The formula the babies need to be fed is esbilac puppy milk replacer. It MUST be the powdered version. The canned liquid esbilac is not the same. Nor is any other powdered puppy milk replacer.

What are you feeding the babies with?

As for the itchy little baby, you can carefully wash the baby with a drop of dawn in some warm water. Make sure you dry well and not allow it to get chilled. Put the babies in a plastic bin with a heating pad that does not have an automatic shut-off, under half of the bin. She is probably itchy from the flea bites.
