My cousin just called, the dogs brought her this from somewhere in the backyard. I told her to dry him off, check him out. He sounds like he has vigor and strength so she is putting baby in a shallow box near a window where she can observe and going inside for a couple of hours and keeping dogs in. Hopefully mom will come for it.

Is this a chipmunk? Should someone get it from her sooner? It's warm outside and baby is breathing well.

I think it's a short tailed shrew. They are super cool. They are North America's only venomous mammal.

I said vole. I don't know my rodents. Crap, I had to yell at her over the phone to touch it. She loves dogs, is terrified of all babies in the universe.

It could be. I'd have to see the teeth to be sure.

She has a rehab facility 45 min away. They are open again at 9 am. Mom didn't come back and it got dark.
She is keeping baby warm and giving a bit of hydration tonight. Thanks!

Do not take that baby to Second Chance. (Zero Chance). They will euthanize in a nanosecond. Should be on TSB avoid list.

I think a shrew. This is a vole.

Yup, that's where they had planned to go. I found, near them, Frisky's wildlife and primate rescue. They look ok on FB. Any experience with them?

Worse than Second Chance. People who volunteer there call me to take squirrels out of there. She doesn't believe in giving rodents antibiotics or pain meds. Sorry I don't know if anyone is open in this area. The only other place that will take this baby is City Wildlife in DC. I will post the number in a minute. They have Vets on staff there. Great place.

I have the info. It's an hour away from them. I'm working on them to make the drive...

Sorry, I wish I could say good things about both of those places but I know them. I will not dare refer a squirrel or any other rodent to them. Now if it was a raptor.... that is a different story.

Oh, I'd rather hear the truth. They're gonna have to put themselves out for one hour. That's what they get for having dogs with mouths. :grin3

Judy (ACGS )was closed all week. I don't know if she is open or not. I spoke to her Tuesday night. She was going to try to open to the public. Maybe she did. Worth a try. I would have suggested her myself just don't know her status. I would take everything on Gods earth to her. She is the very best. :blowkiss

She made contact last night via FB with someone from City Wildlife and they told her to call in the morning. Right now they are making arrangements for hand off.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions and warnings. I appreciate the quick responses!
