Hi everyone. Dixie will be a year old next month. She will only let me handle her now.
Im going to have to let her go wild, due to moving. Is anyone willing to take her and teach her to be wild? It breaks my heart to let her go. 😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢

When are you moving? She could come here for release...

Will she grieve, miss me? Will she be ok? How will you teach her to become wild, and its fixing to be cold???

I live in Cumming, GA, on Lake Lanier, with 20 acres of Army Core of Engineers land behind me.
Let me know if you need a release cage for Dixie.
I am currently building some release cages, and they should be done by this weekend.
I am working on a 3x3x6 and 3x6x6, with solid floors, so they can be moved through a house door in case of really bad weather.
What time frame are you looking at for your move?
Yes, she will miss you for a while.
Then she will meet a boy squirrel (who you will not approve of) and have baby squirrels.

She will undoubtedly miss you, but she will have a wonderful happy life free in the trees.
Her instincts will not fail her, she is still young enough and time in an outdoor release cage will allow her to learn about the wilds from the wilds....
Providing a nice cozy nest box will go a long ways. Nature has provided her everything she needs to deal with the winters (thank goodness its Georgia and not NYS, MI or ON!!!).
Releasing at a place where she'll have additional support in the way of food and clean water will go a long ways in those first few months. They often return to the release cage if they are in need of help and intervention.
