Hi! New to the board! Have a few questions aswell.
I have a 5-6 week old baby who I think might have AP, but I'm not too sure. She sounds like he is clicking when she breathes.
Just yesterday she was doing fine and is a very excited eater and would move around a lot(aspirated maybe once or twice in the last three days), but now she is very lethargic and will barely eat. I've been reading through some posts on here but haven't really found out what I could give her and how much I would need to to help her before it's too late.
Thank you to anyone who replies and help me with this situation!

You need to find some antibiotics asap!
Baytril (animal form)or Cipro (human form) are best. Clava-mox, Amoxicillian can be used.
Check what you have, call around to family and friends. Let us know what you can find, the milligrams of it
and the weight of the baby. We can tell you if it can be used how to break down and dose.
Do not delay! AP takes them down and out fast!

I'm moving this thread to emergency for more eyes on it! We do have Fla members that may be able to assist.

Please provide baby's weight in grams and you will need one pill of : Baytril (animal antibiotic) or Ciprofloxicin (human antibiotic) or less effective Augmentin/Clavamox or amoxicillin.

Once you have these things tell us baby's weight, mg of the pill and someone will give you a dose for the baby who, yes, needs to be started on antibiotics.

@cava and @stepnstone I'm talking to my grandma now and she's going to look to see what we have out of what you said would work, she'll be home within the next hour or so and I will definitely give you the weight and what we have when she does. In the meantime, is there anything else I can do while I'm waiting for my grandma? She's warm right now in a fleece blanket, sleeping. I tried to feed her about an hour ago but she would barely eat like she used to :(
Thank you for your replies!

From what you described she definitely has aspiration pneumonia, ab's are it as far as what can be done to save her.
You will only need 1 pill for treatment which they usually will respond to rather quickly if treated in time.

We have been using Esbilac, it is what we used for our last baby, and right now with a 1ml dropper. She aspirated once off of a syringe we used because she sucked it right out of it too quickly

What size syringe were you using? With or without nipple?
Is this the Esbilac (pictured below) you have been using?

It was a 6ml syringe without a nipple, which I figured it might have just been too big, and I read up on it more realizing we should have used a nipple. And that's the formula we're using

PLEASE order some 1 mL syringes and 3 mL syringes.
Use the 1 mL syringe for feeding now.
Also pick up some miracle nipples. If you don't
want to get those, get the mother silicone nipples.
Your little one will continue to aspirate when using a 6 mL on a baby
squirrel no matter how slow you go.

We were going to order some new syringes and nipples tonight, we stopped with the 6ml syringe after it first happened and used the 1ml dropper until we could get new syringes. This is not our first squirrel, we've raised them as I was growing up. We were limited on supplies because of some old stuff we had to we've been working with what we have while we get online and get new supplies.

I just made a thread in the emergency section looking for abs for you.
Keep looking yourself as I don't know if anyone will reply. This is life threatening,
it will take your baby fast. :(

You can use bactrim but it's a really slow antibiotic, so not the best.
We can dose this for the time being just to get this little one on something.
What is the strength/mg of the Bactrim and what does the baby weigh in grams?
Keep looking for the correct antibiotic.
Going off line for a while but will keep trying to check back to give you dosing.

What kind of yogurt would be good for her? For a probiotic

I get capsules from CVS.
I pull them apart and then add about the size of a captial O
to something they will drink.
Or you can give some vanilla yogurt. I think the one some recommend is Yobaby,
by Stonyfield.

This is a great update.
Keep up the great work.
Keep her warm, and quiet.
I forgot to ask, what kind of container do you have her in,
and do you have a heating pad UNDER half the container, set on LOW?
Can you post a picture of her?
I would love to see your little angel.

@Nancy I gave her some warm water with a tiny bit of honey in it like you said, and listened to see if I heard clicking. I'm not quite sure if there was any, but I heard very faint clicking on and off. Not too noticeable. Heating pad is set on low only under half of the cage and she's in a quiet room next to mine.

How many days has she been on the Baytril?
Is her nose stuffy?

How often should I give her formula over water then? And she's been on Baytril for about two days now. Wednesday night was the first dose, and then two times a day yesterday and she's only gotten one dose today.
And I didn't notice her nose being stuffy, she's sneezed once or twice though today.

Her hydration should be given between formula feedings when necessary, not instead of.
You will be doing a course of at least 7 days on the baytril correct?

Hello, sorry for not answering your question but I'm trying to figure out how to post myself. I need help/advice anything really at this point. I have a five week old eastern gray who has lost his fur fairly quickly. He looks as he did the day I found him (pink and hairless). It started on top his head and has since got worse. His skin also looks like it's peeling. Please help!! His eyes are also open. He's a little trooper though, very active and always wanting to eat.
