I just watched Harolde (female) throw up her esbilac. I remember reading that squirrels aren't supposed to vomit. She ate about 45 mins ago. I fed her at the same time as her cage mates and they seem fine.

There's really no way she could have eaten something toxic, she's in her cage or being fed 100% of the time. I introduced HHB for babies about 1 week ago and I don't think it's that which is causing the vomiting.

What to do?

Sorry if this is TMI but I just smelled the throw up, it smells sour :( not sure why, I just mixed the esbilac this morning.

It would sour once it sat in her stomach for 45 mins. Try feeding less at the next feeding and see if that helps. Maybe she consumed too much at one time. The other possibility would be that she is sensitive to something in the Esbilac. You won't know that until it happens repeatedly. If you determine she's sensitive to the Esbilac you can switch her to Fox Valley 20/50.

Are you feeding the powdered Esbilac with the white puppy picture on the front of the can?

How are you storing the esbilac powder? It WILL go bad in the powdered state - I keep all formula powders in the freezer after having to throw away a half container of the esbilac.

Keep an eye on your little one - if she is okay, in an hour or so offer her some warmed rehydration fluid and see how that goes. If no more vomiting, I would feed her but cut back the amount just for the next feeding to make sure there are no repeats of the problem.

I gave her the same amount she's been eating at each feeding for about 3 days now, but I guess it's possible she ate too much.

She's been on esbilac since I got her on 9/10 so she's been on it for a full week now and never had an issue before.

Yes, it's the esbilac with pre and pro biotics.

I keep the large can of esbilac in the freezer and take out about 5 days worth of powder at a time, and keep that 5 days worth in the refrigerator.

I will try some rehydration fluid in a hour if she's doing ok.

Thanks everyone for your input!

Squirrels are not "designed" to vomit, they can and do regurgitate.
Emesis or vomiting is the forceful ejection of the stomach contents.
Regurgitation is the back-flow of undigested food that has not reached
the stomach yet.
What percentage of her body weight are you feeding or is she at a stage to "free feed?"
One of mine (when younger) would regurgitate about 1/4 cc when she was eating at 7%,
she ate well but I think she was a tad too eager...
I cut her back to 6.5% for about a week and she did fine after that.

I fed her 6% last feeding. She is the most feisty eater of the three foxers I have right now. She may have just eaten too fast?

She seems to be doing much better now. She was literally bouncing around the cage a few minutes ago. I fed her the rehydration water and she promptly passed out with the other 2 babies. :)

So I think we're on the up and up :) thanks everyone :grouphug
