11 week old male grey squirrel developed a black line from his upper abdomen down to his genitals. Has anyone seen this before, is this normal in a male? I just noticed it today. I will try to get a pic of it but just wondered if anyone had seen this before. His fur appears to have just changed color in a small line, it was never there before. Will post pic soon.

Yes please post a picture.
Does this little one have a very dark face?
If so, this is what we call a "dirty faced" squirrel,
there markings are much darker and they have what some
call a "zipper" down their tummies. It's actually just dark fur.
I've had a few so I will try to find a picture.

See how it's starting to develop on his tummy, and how dark his face is?
Second picture is about 7 weeks later.
Is this what your little one looks like?

Its not easy getting a picture of his belly he is so squirrely now. I also have his sister and she doesnt have the line on her belly. He didn't before either which is odd but I guess it just started to darken on him.

Here is his face. He has a lot of rust brown color and some darker grey on him and his tail is somewhat dark so I'm thinking he's just a color variation. I just got worried when I saw the dark line at first I thought it was a cut but after inspecting it it just looks like his fur color which os a relief.

Oh YOU ALSO have a "dirty faced" squirrel. :w00t
They are just so gorgeous, I love them.
Nothing wrong with that little bugger.
Sometimes it does appear that they get darker overnight.

The pictures of the one I posted had a sibling with the same coloring and
the other two siblings without.

Thank you so much! What a relief. I wasn't able to find anything when I googled it earlier. Hes such a sweet boy. The female isn't quite as loving. I'm keeping them thru the winter as it is already getting colder here in Wisconsin and I have yet to find a suitable place for them to be freed. We have tons of cats in the neighborhood as well as dogs. I want to give them the best chance I can. Thanks again!

:hissyfit In hundreds of squirrels over 14 years I've only ever had ONE little 'dirty-face' zipper squirrel, the third baby I ever took in! I LOVE that coloring!

Lovely, I'll come pick him up this weekend......:grin3
