So one of my neighbors found an Eastern Grey baby squirrel that had fallen from the nest due a storm. They tried putting him(it is a boy) in a basket and letting the mom take it back multiple times but she would not. My neighbor has raised and released 4 babies before but just does not have the time to anymore and I said I could take care of it. I understand and have read a ton of information on our Squirrley friends that they don't make great pets but as he a lone baby I have decided to try and keep him. I am prepared to read comments that say it isn't a good idea, but human babies are just as if not more messy ;).
I've currently had him for 3 days. I don't know his age but if I had to guess it's around 7-8 weeks old. He can sit up and hold the rodent block while he eats it( rather makes more of a mess than eating), can curl his tail, pees on his own.
He is hydrated. So I tried giving him Esbilac formula but he doesn't like it and refuses to take any from the syringe, but I can immediately get him some sugar water and he goes crazy over it. He also likes the rodent blocks I give him. He will run away from me to a wall and pee himself, but I've only seen him poop a tiny bit once or twice.
My concerns/questions are is it okay that he doesn't want the formula at his age? Is him not pooping much normal?? What should I start feeding him along with the rodent blocks? He has a teddy bear he sleeps next to on his heating pad that I think he thinks may be his mother because it looks like he searches it for nipples sometimes, or he's just rubbing his nose, I'm not sure.
He seems very healthy and happy. He likes to run around and explore, he is a very good climber, and sleeps a lot. So far he seems to be doing good but as I am new to this I wanted to come to the experienced people who have actually done this to help me. Thanks in advance!!

Being a singleton should not sentence them as non-releasable, I've personally raised and successfully released many singletons.
If you really understood you'd understand "human babies" unlike squirrels, are not born to the wild nor born with hardwired instincts
meant for the wild as nature intended them.
But we are here for the squirrel.....
A picture would be very helpful to access his age and help us to evaluate to help you.
If this baby is 7-8 weeks he should still be on formula and should be eating between 5-7% of his body weight.
(Correct formula pictured below)
Having a scale that weighs in grams and knowing babies weight is essential, not only for feeding but also for
medicating if necessary. Meds are dosed by weight.
Good that you have introduced rodent block, what is the type block you are feeding?
Please post a picture of your baby.

This was the day I got him and he was still a little dehydrated, he looks better now. The first picture is him this morning.
Mazuri rodent block.

I'm just worried because if he does need the formula, then I need him to not resist it. I've tried starting with formula every time I feed him but he always resists but has no problem accepting rodent block or sugar water immediately after.

Also just checked and the closest rehabilitater center to me is 3-4 hours away. So it's on me to save the little guy. So I may try to release him back, but I need him to take this dang formula because it has me worried sick.

Jbizilia, try this: load a syringe with formula, make sure it's pretty warm, almost hot, then dip the syringe tip in either honey or apple juice. That will increase your chances of him at least tasting it. Get some good drops of formula into his mouth before he backs away and watch his face. Sometimes they suddenly realize how good it is and start sucking! I had one for whom I had to do this for TWO DAYS before the little stinker would take formula, and he was much younger than your guy.

I used the wildlife rehabilitator searcher and the only one near me is Auburn Raptor Center but they only take raptors. I'm in Auburn, Alabama.

Can you give me a big city that you are near so I don't have to search? :)
I will see what members/rehabbers we have close by.
How far would you be willing to travel?

Auburn is a pretty big city, and I can't drive that far because my vehicle isn't in the best shape, I just use it to get to and from work/classes until I can buy a new one.
