I had another threat saying he was constipated and I finally got apple juice in him around 6 tonight and 12am now yesterday since I just did a 12 am feeding again. I've rubbed his bottom for mintues to where I had to wake him up to keep making sure he was trying to go he's peeing just fine a lot actually because I try for so long before his feeding and after his feeding he's had apple juice now three feeds. I've up his bottom in warm water several times and rubbed his bottom while he was in the water too. His stomach is swollen he's only a got a little bump most of the time after he's feed. Did he maybe not get enough formula to make him poop?? He eats pretty hot and was poop just fine before. He has gotten constipated one time before but never this long. He doesn't even seem like he's pushing. And he's always ready to eat even though he doesn't really enjoy the apple juice/water. He'd rather have his milk lol he actually seems disappointed when he realizes that it's not his milk. I'm really worried it'll almost be 24 hours since his last poop.

He's at it again not pooping. He pooped the one time then he pooped a lot alot in his cage and had a little tiny lose stool but not too bad and that was at like 6am and it is now 5pm. I went to milk after he had the lose stool and then after he didn't poop for to feedings I did milk and the a little apple juice after. What should I do?? He might just push it out on his self again in his cage but I hate to see him have to do that. I spend a long time trying to make him go to the bathroom

What kind of milk are you using? How old is he?

esbilac. He's been on it for almost a week and it just started the past couple of days when I posted the first one he got backed up one other time but that's when I first got him and I was sure it was because the ppl before me didn't know how to feed him right. I've done the soaking the bottom and the whipped for minutes he just ends up falling asleep and he just opened his eye today at 4pm. His stomach isn't bloated or anything and he eats a good amount. He doesn't enjoy the apple juice and I swaer he gives me a face when he finds out it's not the milk but he still drinks it. Should I switch to a different formula type??

How much does he weigh?
How much are you feeding him at each feeding?
How often are you feeding him?
Is the Esbilac the powdered Esbilac?

Yes that one and he's about 1.9 oz. I feed him about 3to 4 cc if he takes it but sometimes it's less then that. And I was feeding him everything 3 to 3 and half hours but today I just changed it to 4

He took some more apple juice and water after he was done with the milk he ate about 2and half ccs and then .3 cc of the apple and water. His stomach is a little bloated but not bad I'm hopping he'll just go by his self again like the first time. He just opened his eyes yesterday he doesn't need to be sick now he's just seeing the world:/. And I added more water to milk to try and make it easier to pass but that doesn't seem to help. He has his next feeding at 12 which is it's now 9 so hopefully it will pass. The other baby I have is doing fine one it. He's only 3 weeks old and eyes aren't open yet

If he is bloated, skip the next feeding and just hydrate with regular water. Try a warm bath again and very gently massage his stomach area.

Try skipping the next meal, hydrating with regular water and a gentle massage and warm bath. No point in adding more food if this baby is becoming bloated, that will just make the situation worse. You can give GasX and some other meds which may help but try what I suggested first. I have alerted some experienced rehabbers who will hopefully provide some detailed help!

Can you post a picture of his tummy when you say he's bloated?
Does his tummy appear hard, or is it like an inflated balloon?
Try making the Powdered Esbilac ahead of time. Let it set in the refrig for 6-8 hours
whisking occasionally to make sure that it all gets dissolved.
What some people do is they make a larger batch, do as directed above
with letting it rest, and then freeze in the ice cube trays. Beofre you pour into the ice
cube trays whisk again.
Once frozen, you can take the cubes out and put them in zip lock bags. Take out what you need the night
before and let them thaw in the refrig.

At 1.9 oz he was 53 grams and with feeding 3-4 cc's you were maxing him out at 7% +.
Get a new (current) weight on him and hold his feedings at no more then 6% every 4 hours at least until he's stable with his bowels.
Is his formula being kept warm enough during feeding? Cold formula can also cause digestive issues as well as bloating.

I would make sure he is not bloated. Post a pic of his stomach? If the bloat goes away and he poops, then restart formula but keep it on the lower side of amount 5-6%.

Hirmy should have 2.5ml and pinky should get 2.25ml of formula at each feeding. After 2 for 3 feedings with this amount and no bloat and regular poops and peeing, then you can go up to 3ml formula. Weigh them every day or at least every other day so you can stick with 5-6% of their weight for now.

A good amount to feed is between 5-7% of body wr when the baby's weight is measured in grams. See if your scale has a switch on that will convert to grams. That is the measurement we use for everything. When you post in ounces it is an extra step cos we have o figure out what that weight is in grams.
So if your baby is 60 grams you would be feeding between 3 cc at 5% and 4.2 cc at 7%.
Every morning weigh your baby, keep a log of his wt , and figure out what 5% of his wt for that day, and feed him that amount at his 5 feedings that day.

The one that weighs 1.8 is 51 grams
the one that weighs 1.6 is 45 grams
As redwuff suggested, please give the weight in grams, it
makes it easier for us that answer most of the emergencies.

If you keep your threads together I could go back back and look up information. I think I might have read that your dude is 5 wks. Depending on condition of baby I usually go to 5 feedings at 3 - 3.5 wks. At that age, again depending on babies condition, I feed pretty close to 5%. Weigh every morning, write it down, figure out 5%, and feed that for the rest of the day.
Your babies looks good, a little on the thin side but no worries, feed 5% and I promise you will have a fat baby soon. Good job!

I am not sure what you mean "if I feed every hour".
Tell me about schedules. For awhile I had 3 different schedules. I am now bald from pulling my hair out. I had a pinky, 4 critical 5 wk olds, a big fat healthy 3 wk old, and 4 8 -9 wkers, 2 that were still trying to fatten up from the condition they came in with. Just try to do the best you can. Your 3 seeker still needs to be on 6 x a day, and it looks like for awhile your bigger boy can stay on 6 x. Great questions!

Idk why he's getting so constipated. The other baby is pooping with out even having to be rubbed as soon as you pick him up and he knows he's about to eat he just goes. I make sure the milk is warm hirmy is warm and I make sure the water that I put on the cotton ball tto rub him is warm. Idk why he doesn't want to go he's eating just fine he went at 8 last night 12 last night and 4 this morning now at the 8 feeding he didn't go but his belly was full from the feeding. :( it worries me so much is anyone else having problems or is it just me?? He's lively he crawls around his eyes and ears are alert he looks like a healthy baby he just won't poop every feeding 🙄 And now he has a little red mark next to his hole for his butt. It looks like a blood blister or a bruise

Just keep him warm and hydrated. I would rather underfeed for a bit than overfeed. Sometimes, little ones will not poop every time, just keep at it. Also, sometimes they need extra stimulation to poop.

No poop number two :/. I have him a little bit of milk to see if it would get him started to go and he's all eager to get milk then I stopped the milk to give him some water and once he realizes it's not milk he shuts down and doesn't want to drink the water but I got some in him and a little bit of apple juice I found a little poop on his side but it could have been his brothers for all I know. Idk what I'm doing wrong.

I think I would stop with apple juice for now. When feeding formula, just feed formula. Try to give a little plain water between feedings. Some times it take a fair amount of stimulation to get them starting to poop. You can always try a warm bath (soak his bottom half in it) and a gentle massage. Maybe refer to your formula as formula and not milk because we do see people who try scalded milk and which never turns out well. So every time I see the word "milk" I start to panic a little bit! :grin2

Ok, just cut out the apple juice for now. Bloating is usually from too much formula or for some reason he is not digesting it. Anyone think a different formula should be tried? 3ml is about right but watch that he does not become any more bloated. You are trying hard with him, hopefully he will respond soon and start regular pooping. Just remind me, are you using Esbilac or Fox Valley?

I seriously have to question what you are seeing that makes you think it's bloat?
Can you try and post a picture of what your seeing the next time it's in question.
From all the pictures you have posted it's pretty obvious to me this baby needs the calories.
At 52 grams 3.1 is 6%, 3.6 is 7% of body weight, you certinally would not be over feeding at 3cc's
If you still feel he needs hydration give in between feedings not instead of and I would recommend
every other time not every time. If he will not take to plain water (which is best) try adding a tiny
bit of honey to flavor.
FYI: As with diarrhea, drinking apple juice may trigger gas, which can take the form of flatulence,
belching or abdominal bloating.

You want the pediatric oral suspension GasX (flavor does not matter) and give 0.12ml.

Just get in what you can. Don't force him to take anything, we don't want him
to aspirate.
Try putting it between his cheek and gum, and not straight down the throat, ok?

Don't dilute the gas x with water. Give it straight.
You can't put food on top of food and gas that isn't moving so you may have to hold a couple of feedings until the bloated belly is way down and you see a bm. In the mean time you may give warm water (Not apple juice water, not salt water) And like they said, he may not like it but you can add a touch of honey to it and just give drop by drop.
While you wait, keep him warm and dry. Let him rest and digest.

Getting rid of the bloat is a the number one goal here, then pooping.
Try to keep him hydrated with regular water, you can give him another dose 0.12ml of GasX today. Warm bath and gentle massage to help him poop.

Ok I would stop the Esbilac right now. We are having problems with the Esbilac in some babies this year. I have a pinky that got bloated and I almost lost him due to the Esbilac. Also, had some compromised babies that did the same thing. I was afraid I would lose them too.
We took all of the effected babies off Esbilac. We hydrated for 24 hours. (If the bloat clears sooner and the stomach milk line has cleared you can start the GM sooner than 24 hours). These babies have to have calories and nutrition after no longer than 24 hours on hydration. You can hydrate in between regular feedings for a few days or until you feel he is well hydrated.
Now after hydration for no more than 24 hours without formula I would start the Goats milk formula. Goats milk is easily digested in baby mammals. If you can't find fresh in the store, get canned or powdered and use as the instructions say to reconstitute on the can or package. I have been told that goats milk can be found at Walmart fresh in refrig section or cans and/ or powdered there too.
We will get stared on GM formula for a week or so and then we can tell you how to start mixing Esbilac a little at a time back in to provide enough calories and nutrition for proper growth and health.
Redwuff will will give you the formula and how to transition in her post in a few minutes. I need to go feed 10 babies. It takes forever. BRB after feeding.
Be sure to use the gas-x it is a life saver for these babies.

Hang in there, you are doing great. This is frustrating. :grouphug
The problem is with the esbilac when you are feeding full strength. It has not being tolerated well with some. Once Hirmys bloat is gone, let's work on a formula that is easily digested. I mentioned to you in the thread you started about 'cranberry juice' that I have had a tough time with esbilac causing bloat and babies not being able to digest it well. I had a pinky that I stupidly put on esbilac and he got badly bloated once I got him to full strength esbilac. I switched to a formula using
Goats milk, yogurt, and creme. The formula is 3 part goats milk, 1 part full fat vanilla yogurt, 1 part heavy whipping creme. An example would be 3 tbsp of gm,
1 tbsp yogurt, 1tbsp creme. That is the Goats Milk Formula (GMF)
Once the bloat is gone, do a transition of 50% gmf/50%water and feed this for two feedings, then feed 75%/25% water for two feedings, then straight GMF. Keep Hirmy on this for a while and let's see how this makes his tummy feel. Then we can slowly transition him back to 50/50 GMF/ Esbilac. That is where my babies are now and they are all doing great.
There is another product called Fox Valley 20/50 that you could try, but I think you still might have to cut that also.
Let me know if you are able or even interested in this formula for your baby.

I went to the rehab place and they gave me flagyl for him that I will start him on they said they have been having trouble with bloating too. And I'd like the formula for the goats milk when ever someone can.

You can buy fresh goat's milk or if you can only buy the powdered goat's milk reconstitute it according to it's directions and use it. Heavy whipping cream needs a lot of shaking to get the fat to smooth out and I put the remainder in ice cube trays and freeze what's left.

Just in case you missed cava or Redwuff's post. Thank you cava and wuff !
Homemade Goat Milk Formula (GMF)*: 3 parts goat milk, 1 part vanilla yogurt, 1 part heavy cream. Mix well. Leave out the cream for the first few feedings and then add it in gradually. If diarrhea occurs, reduce or eliminate the cream for a few feedings.
An example for mixing for 1-2 babies
3-Tablespoons goats milk
1-Tablespoon vanilla full fat yogurt
1-Tablespoon heavy cream
If mixing for 12 or more babies
1-cup goats milk
1/3 cup vanilla full fat yogurt
1/3 cup heavy cream.
