I just caught Sammy pulling an avocado peel from the trash. I was able to pull all of it from his mouth but I'm not sure if he ate any of it. If he did it wasn't much. I always tie the peel and seed up in the bag before throwing it away. I heard him rustling around but thought he was stealing paper towels and working on his cabinet nest like he's been doing all morning. How much peel is enough to harm him? I don't know if he ate any but if he did it was not much. How worried do I need to be? What do I need to look for and what do I need to do?
I can account for almost all of the peel. Here is a pic. The part I can't account for is circled. The one with the x was still in he bag with the others and the seed. I pulled a chunk from his mouth with I can't find now but I three it back into the trash. So if he ate any it's was a very small amount.

I'm quite sure that Sammy will be fine. You could give extra hydration to get him
to pee more, just in case.
I know that a member that used to be on the board, Jackie in Tampa, has said before
that she's seen squirrels eat the skin while eating the avocados from the trees.
I think he will be fine.
Watch for any sign of vomiting, or lethargy, but I'm pretty sure you're safe. :hug

Ok. I just didn't know if a tiny amount was something to be overly concerned about. Once I pieced them together and figured out it was a very little amount I felt a bit better but wanted to err on the side of caution. He was so mad when I prayed that last bit out of his mouth! I was pretty shocked that wasn't his first viscous bit to my hand!! Thanks for responding so quickly and putting my mind at ease. I will watch him carefully for any negative signs.

As Nancy said I'm sure he'll be fine.
I know of two girls that had a few pieces there
Self One time And they were just fine.

I too am confident Sammy will be fine having eaten a small amount just this one time.
It is consumption of large portions of skin and / or pits -or- consumption of smaller amounts over a long period period that are deadly. Hence best to avoid skin and pits...

He's been running around out of his cage since he possibly ate it and has been fine. :thumbsup5 It's just one of the things I am always overly cautious about making sure is disposed of so he can't get to it. Today he did and I panicked. Id never forgive myself if I got him this far only to have him die because I made a stupid mistake. Thanks everyone!!
