my dog brought me an eastern gray that was much younger than i originally thought. she had a few issues with eating, but we worked through those and she is doing great now. she is about 4 weeks old now. her ears are open now- her eyes are still closed, and her bottom teeth have come in.
two days ago, my dog brought me a baby fox squirrel. i think she is about 5-6 weeks old. her eyes are open. he found her in the mud- i have no idea how long she was there before he found her. i got her warm and started her off with pedialyte to get her hydrated. she is eating now, and and is eating really well, and she is urinating well (usually on me) but she has only pooped twice, and both times it was a very small amount. her belly is full, but not hard or even firm. i know that it is common for there to be a bit of a delay sometimes after being separated from their mom, but i am a worrier.
my eastern gray was only a day or two old when my dog found her, so she is used to being handled, and has no problem with me holding her and stimulating her bits to go potty. my fox squirrel does not like to be held out, she is still nervous and unsure of everything and likes to be held close. i hold her to my chest and try to stimulate her without causing additional stress.
i know it is common for there to be a delay, but when should i start to REALLY worry?
thanks so much!!
