I am in the midst of Hurricane Harvey. Id expect there will be others visiting this site for help as this disaster is indescribable. Ive got a newborn (mabe a week old? ) that mom dropped off in the pouring rain, presumably the nest was destroyed. I started baby with some evap milk after hydrating as i didnt know any better. Ive switched back to a pedialyte mix. Trouble is everything is so flooded, I can't get the little girl to a rehabber now. Its been near 48 hours and while I keep her in a safe place outside near where mom left her, ive seen no signs of mom returning for her.

My only option seems to be to keep doing what i'm doing or find a vet that has the right squirrel formula. Id appreciate advice.

Thank you for saving this baby our prayers are with everyone in Texas. Others will be along shortly to help. Cows milk of any kind is a no no. They cannot digest it well at all. If you can get to a pet store - Esbilac is preferred. If you can't there is a recipe for a home made formula with goats milk on the forum. Please let us know what resources you have avail so we can help better.

Do you happen to know anyone at the TWRC in the Houston area?

I hope more people like you are helping wildlife, not only squirrels, but Opossums and Raccoons. But I'm assuming you can't pop into the store and pick up some Esbilac. You either need that or Goats milk and a few other ingredients How big is the squirrel, eyes opened or closed? Can you put up some pictures?

24 hours of pedialyte if okay, but you're going to need food and as the other person said Cows Milk is absolutely NO GOOD.

Give us some more info and we will help you figure this out.

Below is a very helpful link. It is 6 concise pages which I mention because I overlooked the "next" button in the upper right corner. Please continue to let us know which questions you have and if relevant what you have to work with given potentially limited options due to the flood.

This may be jumping ahead, but in previous flood situations, the question of whether or not one could receive mail became relevant. Are you getting mail? Is it possible to send stuff to you?

Yes, if you can receive mail then we can get some necessary supplies to you. If you can get to a Pet Supermarket or Tractor Supply you can get powdered Esbilac. The goats milk formula requires goats milk (powdered, canned or fresh), whipping cream and full fat vanilla yogurt. Just letting you know the ingredients, I'm not sure what your abilities are to get where you need to go to get these ingredients.

Thank you for helping in the midst of chaos. :hug

:helloeveryone on TSB!!

Thank you for taking care of this baby, I am not sure what side of town you're located or if you can get to a Petco or PetSmart to buy Esbilac puppy replacement milk?
I'm also in Houston and I'm going to try to drive to the NW side of Houston tomorrow (Thursday) to check on my mother's house. I have 1cc's and 3cc's syringes if you need them I can try to get them to you?
