we released our squirrel on June 7. he comes every morning when I put nuts out for him. he seems to be living in some older nests that are vacant. I am beginning to worry about the colder months ahead. Do you think he will innately know how to build a nest? He has not yet made any friends that I can tell. There is an older female that tries to get his food and they chase each other and sometimes she wins and other times he wins. Hope he will find a friend soon. Hate that he is alone.
He still comes to say hello everyday. We do not feed by hand but put a stash in the garden on a rock. Everyone seems to get some that way.

His natural instincts will come into play and he will build his own drey eventually, it's
pretty normal for one to take over a drey or nest box when it suits their needs.
Squirrels are solitary by nature, he may take up with a mate but even that can be
short lived once she is with babies. In the colder months some may and do companion
with another for warmth.

This person used to be a member of the board.
He will make custom nest boxes for you as well.
MyBushyTail has some photos of his custom boxes in her thread.
I'm sure if you contact her she will be glad to point out the posts with the pictures.
He sells on esty now.
