My two little boys were left behind by their mother- who most likely thought they were ill or dead... long story!! She took one though, so that means my two boys have a sibling.
I'm pretty sure I've seen their mother and the sibling in my yard.

My question: is it possible that my babies would 'know' their mother or sibling after being with me for 4 months? Will mom know them? Could they reunite as a 'family'?
They have been partially released for 3 days- another long story- but I haven't noticed them with any other squirrels.

I feel kind of silly asking this, but was just wondering!

After weaning, tree squirrels become less reliant upon their mothers. Some mother squirrels have been observed giving up some of their territory to support the survival of their young. Yet others, once pregnant again, will drive off their older juvenile young in support of their next litter. For though no doubt they know their own young from their scent, their relationship with them ends once the task of raising them is completed. Her young then move on to establish their own territories towards taking part in the procreation of their kind.

Accurate. It I'll add from my own experience that it's not that their relationship ends. I've seen a sweet exchange of affection between an adult squirrel and her mother. So I'd say that the relationship changes to that between an adult child (independent and well adjusted)and a parent. But it does not end.
