Last night a baby I have been feeding stopped passing feces. In about 3 hours he had formed a hard knot behind the rectum. I was not able to manipulate the knot to break it down and he began bloating about 3AM. He's at the Vet since 7:30AM and he's passed 2 loose stools but the impaction is still there and he's still bloated.
My question - is there a stool softener safe for a baby this young.? Is there anything safe for the bloating? This Vet takes all creatures but never had a tiny baby squirrel, they are afraid to try stool softeners

You can try children's Gas-X, very safe. Even safer is a warm-water soak for about 5min at a time, carefully warming up the baby again in between baths. While holding him waist-high in the water, gently massage his sides and lower belly. What were you feeding him? Both KMR and Fox Valley 32/40 can often cause bloat in baby squirrels.

I was feeding ProAg puppy. .5CC at first then 1CC. I mixed it with more water than called for but read that was better than
too concentrated. I feel like I might have over feed him.

They found children's Gas-X liquid and she is trying a very small amount in water and she is taking him home and treating him there. She rehabs infant rabbits and nose(knows LOL my phone is the pits) at least what to do. She said he's very active and he had another stool since we talked before.

She's going to try soaking him when she gets him home.

Get rid of the Pet Ag immediately! Although made by the same company, it is NOT the same as Esbilac powdered puppy formula. You want the Esbilac powder with prebiotics and probiotics. Please be sure to tell the vet as this formula has been the death of many babies that we have seen here.

To answer your question... Lactulose can be safely used to help with constipation. Vet should be able to dose.
