Unfortunately we have termites and we have to tent our home. The company we are using said that the gas they use is Vikane and it leaves no residue. The gas goes away after the house is aerated after 2 days. But I'm still not convinced (maybe someone can). And the reason I am concern because my rescue male grey squirrel of 3 years on 'rare' occasions likes chew on my furniture and door until I stop him, but its rare. I'm afraid that that gas will contaminate all the wood in my house ( door funiture etc) and if my squirrel chew s on it he will die. Has any one gone through this ???

I would wipe down every surface in the house multiple times - and would do so even if I didn't have ANY animals. It is POISON. When people tell me that poison is harmless I usually ignore them...

Trust me I hate any type of poison too. And my husband and I had fights about this, but we have major termite problem in our house. We tried other methods, but nothing works. I was thinking about putting my furniture outside or something, but lets see. Wiping after is good idea. I just dont want my squirrel or other animals to get sick. Thanks

I would also research and see if there's something specific you can use when you wipe it down that will work better on this specific poison. Honestly, I like your idea of removing furniture...especially the pieces that are his favorites. I do understand your dilemma:dono you have to save your home...but the poisons scare the "bleep" out of me. I would say I have a cat...will this harm him...cats are so sensitive...you might get a more honest answer. Good luck....I wonder if you could wrap some stuff in large plastic bags :thinking

I don't want to alarm you but Vikane is EXTREMELY toxic and there are no antidotes if you are exposed. It should be safe after it has completely cleared from your house but I would make sure that basements, attics and other enclosed areas are well ventilated to the outside after the treatment is complete.

This pesticide can attach to proteins in food so remove all squirrel and people foods from your home before the treatment.

The pesticide company should do tests to confirm levels after the house has been treated and cleared. If this was my place, I would plan on leaving many windows open for several additional days just for peace of mind. There should not be any residue left over on your furniture, if there was then even wiping it down could be dangerous.

Hi there, I think you should good professionals who can provide you fumigation chamber service. Recently, when my friend was disturbed by bed bugs he hired professional moving companies NYC (http://movingrightalong.com/bedbug.html) who provided him fumigation chambers. According to him their way of working was quality driven, which make the house free from bed bugs and there was no chance to contaminate wood.
