Have to share my interesting encounter from yesterday. As most of you know my husband and I are traveling for a family emergency. Getting ready to walk into a store for a drink and noticed a senior couple walking to the store as well. The wife was walking a dog and the man had a rather large bird on his shoulder. I asked if the dog and bird got along well together, he responded they get along fine but the bird preferred the Squirrel to play with. Obviously I was stunned and just had to ask all sorts of questions and then tell them all about Ben and show off his cutie pie pictures. Of course I am always ready with pictures! Anyway, they had a nonrelease red squirrel for eight years before it recently passed. And yes, they too carry pictures...What a shock and nice surprise to have met another Squirrel person...made my very stressful day alittle brighter...Never can tell where you will encounter a Squirrel lover!!!

:dance and you sent them here to The Squirrel Board, right? :grin3

That's so neat! Did you say it passed, thou? Or do they have a different one now?

They said it passed but was over eight when it did. It was found with a brain injury from falling out of a tree as an infant, eyes closed but had fur. The Squirrel had major balance issues and wasn't able to jump or even walk steady. I told them about the forum but they said they weren't internet savy. The poor thing passed unexpectedly. It tryed to jump out of the cage and fell, died instantly. They were so upset telling me the story. I think they feel responsible. I told them it sounds like they were wonderful Squirrel parents and should be very proud to have given their baby eight wonderful years...I was so touched by their story...:serene

Thanks for sharing this here. Bless their hearts, eight years is a long life for a Red (pine) squirrel, especially one with neuro issues, poor thing.
