I saved a baby 16 lined ground squirrel AKA stripped gopher... took a lot of research and time but I managed to keep her alive. Was about 5 weeks when brought to me and eyes opened the second day, about 8 now. I'm leaving town for a month and I have a baby, dog.... I want someone how knows what to do with her. I live in Dickinson ND, Leaving on July 17th, please help.

Oh my! What is the age that ground squirrels need to be before release back to the wild? I know some species mature quicker than others, but 8 weeks does seem young.
Hopefully someone on here will know of a member close enough to help or of a safe facility that can help.
Thank you for helping this little one and wanting what's best for her. Best of luck.

Whoever ends up with the stripie is going to need a good source for grubworms, as the larval worms as a major food source for the groundies.
I was told by a rehabber here that the freeze dried mealies went over big with the pocket gophers.
Here is where you can get organic raised mealies etc. shipped to right to your door.
“Camillies Vita-Mealies” http://vita-mealie.weebly.com/
Super folks run this family run company, organic fed and raised mealies and other grubworms are available.

What's the status on the Gopher? Maybe im reading it wrong but it seems old enough for release. Is there an injury?
