Hello!

My grandma feeds wild birds and squirrels are often attracted to the feeders. Because they're considered pests here, she traps them then relocates them into a wooded area farther away from humans. She did so a few days ago but now 3 young squirrels have turned up at the feeders. They've been there since early morning and alternate between huddling in the tree nearby and eating the seeds and apples she put on the ground for them. There s been no sign of their mother anywhere.

We were just wondering if they would be alright on their own or if there was something we could/should do to help them. rehabilitation center is not an option, they would almost certainly be euthanized if we brought them there...

I attached photos since knowing their age could help answer the question.... thank you!

They look very young. If you can catch them, make them a warm bed and feed them goats milk out of a styringe. Call a rehabbed near you and take them to it as soon as you can. You might have to call around. If you can't find one anywhere close, buy some special formula for Henry's healthy pets until you can take them to a rehabber. A rehabber takes in baby wildlife and rehabilitates them, not kills them. Give them a call and ask yourself.

I doubt we ll be able to find them a rehab center, they re seen as pest around here and while looking for a place to call, I came accross articles that said that baby squirrels brought to these centers were euthanized.

They ate the apple with no issues so we were hoping they migth be old enough to survive on their own but we werent certain (hence the post here )

If their mother wasnt the one that was relocated, would we have seen her by now? Its been about 8 hours now.

Are you able to walk up to them and feed them out of your hand? If so, they probably wouldn't survive on their own two days. Maybe you could rehab them yourself? I'm not gonna tell you how to do that bc I have no idea how, but someone else might. But seeing as they're pests in your area, I don't know how to go about this one.

Yes, two of them ate an apple out of my hand earlier and let themselves be petted. The third is skittish.

If we try to rehab them ourselves, we'll definitely need some advice. My grandma has carred for injured birds before but never squirrels. We live somewhere squirrels arent kept as pets though, so finding something to feed them might be tricky.

Please catch and take inside. They are alone and scared

Ok this is gonna be difficult. Get a bin or something they can't get out of, and put a heating pad at the bottom at the lowest setting. Then put a blanket (no towels ) on top, and put them in it. Order some fox valley formula from Henry's healthy pets and in the meantime get some goats milk and feed them Every five or six hours. Rehabbing is expensive, because of food needs, cage needs, and TONS of patience.

Ive just found out about a woman and her vet friend who have an organisation destined to saving squirrels (they founded it a few years ago after being told squirrels would be euthanized if brought in) I'll try to get in touch with them!

Good to know! For now do what I said about housing, and you should be good.

The place I found referred us to a family that rehabilitates wildlife animals in our area. All 3 babies are safe and in good hands now =)

I agree with you floppy, they actually need to be treated well.
