Squirrels with Abscesses and Squirrel with Bald Spots
I do not know if I can catch this squirrel or not so I may not be able to do anything but I would like to know if this is anything serious. I think this squirrel is a female and I think a while back she had patches where it now looks bald where her hair stood on end and looked strife and stuck together. She has one bald spot at the base of her tail and a few on her head. There was small fire next store and I wondered if she could have singed her hair but I do not think she goes home in the direction that the fire was.
There is also a small male that looks to be sexually mature that has a swelling on his right rear leg. It look to me that he may have some scares on his back so I think some of the other squirrels may have given him a hard time. I do not have a picture of him now, but I may get one later. I do not know if I want to trap him because some Squirrels react badly to being trapped, but if he lets me catch him with my hands or in a towel because he knows he is in trouble then I would like to do something for him. In my state I cannot take him to a vet. If I take him to a rehabber they will probably not allow him to come home. I have heard that it is hard for a squirrel that is moved to a new location to get along with the other squirrels and this guy looks like he is already having problems, perhaps because he is so small. I would miss this guy if he did not come home and I would worry about him.
Is it called swaddling when a squirrel is raped up so a vet can work on him? How is swaddling done? How painful is it to a squirrel to be lanced? Is there any way to get help from someone who knows how to lance a squirrel in Pennsylvania? In the book an Acorn for Emily, Emely’s hart stopped when they made her unconscious so the vet could look at her. She lived but this could not have been good for her. She was a paralyzed squirrel. So I would not want this squirrel to be completely unconcise but only partly sedated it is necessary. Enough so he would not feel too much pain if he were to be lanced. I have heard that lancing is sometimes necessary and that antibiotics alone cannot always cure an abscess. I have been told that sometimes squirrels will do self surgery but I have not noticed this happening.
He is not the only squirrel with an abscess that I have seen on my deck. I posted this earlier but I will put here again because I would like to know if there is a way to stop the squirrels from getting abscess in the first place:
Wild Squirrels with Abbesses or Swollen Legs
A number so squirrels that come to my deck have abbesses on one of their back legs. I think they are all mails that are sexually mature and I think it is always the back right leg that has an abuses or is swollen. Does anyone know why I am seeing a lot so squirrels with this. Are they getting bitten in the leg by other squirrels? I think that because squirrels are very clean animals a bit from them does not usually get infected so why are these squirrels getting abbesses and swollen legs?
Is this a good section to post this kind of post?
