I've posted about this before, but some things have changed since last summer. I've found out that my Snickers is an epileptic. Since posting and getting advice here, she seems well controlled with almonds. I'm sure a pet sitter could give them to her, but this would be our first long ( 10 day) absence since her episodes , and I wonder if the stress of us being gone, or, the stress of taking her with us would make things worse?? We have an RV, and plan to travel to upstate NY for a family visit. It will be at least a two day drive. Doodles ( my very special needs girl) is fine with traveling ...she has to go when we travel; nobody can hand feed/water her but me. She's fine in a portable kennel, as she doesn't require room for climbing and exercise. Snickers however, is very active. I do have a two story cat condo that I use when I'm worried she's not acting herself, or eating well, to keep her in at night near our bed. But first thing in the morning, she's running circles and anxious to get out and free range in their large habitat room. I'm just trying to decide what is best for her-If she comes with us... pros: I can make sure she eats well , give her almonds, and have our daily snuggle time before bed... cons: she will have to be confined more than she's used to, she may not care for hours on highways ( but hopefully will sleep in her cube?), and she won't have her woodland habitat room ( but she can have some free time in camper under supervision, and fresh small limbs in her cage...) Which would be best for her , to travel or stay home ? Hate to even travel nowadays , miss all our pets too much!

First, I am thrilled that almonds have helped Snickers with her seizures. They have been a miracle 'almost cure' for my Owena, who went from five seizures per week to maybe five per year.
I would take her with you. Squirrels, unlike dogs and cats, seem to love the car. Remember they are created to live in trees, which are always moving with the wind. They LIKE movement, it doesn't make them sick like dogs and cats. I think she will enjoy being with you, and you will be much more relaxed taking charge of her and not worrying about her back home.

I take my guys with me--three day trip--when we go to Iowa. It IS a little stressful for them as Scooter is the only one who gets out time--in the hotel bathtub in a pile of fleece. Everybody else seems to stay tucked in their cubes. Just make sure your guys drink enough. That's my biggest concern as I can't leave the water bottles in cages--too much dripping when the car moves. I won't have them in wet cages. They sort of suck it up and are REALLY glad to get to the other end of the trip. You're in gravy! You have a traveler. You take your accomodations with you. Wow! Oh yeah--it may cause some stress but leaving him will be lots worse--on him AND you!

Thanks for replies, and backing up my wishful thinking for plans to try and take them. I wondered what others here do, so knowing motion is not terrifying is such a relief.I have stressed (and procrastinated) planning this trip; hoping mom could simply fly here...but she's not in good health, got to get up there. Flying there would mean leaving them here; and though we have reliable sitters for all the other pets , these ( three actually) are so high maintenance. Mom thinks this is ridiculous, cutting our days to visit a little short by not flying; but the relief of knowing they can come outweighs the grumpy opinions from grandma! Thanks again! Girls are going to NY, will be an adventure :)

So, the second dilemma is convincing my husband ...that two large cat condos in the camper is a perfectly reasonable request for his wife's peace of mind while on this trek... I even mentioned that some squirrel experts agree, this is the best for all of us😀

I just announced the idea to him while he was cooking breakfast.... he's not amused at the moment. 😐
