After months and months of discussion, my husband and I decided that we need to try and rehome our baby, Thistle. She is five years old. We are unable to give her the appropriate amount of attention she deserves. She has some behavior issues but I am positive with a little bit of work she will be a great friend to someone who is willing and patient.
I feel like a horrible person. I literally hate people like me who get a pet and don't keep them for the duration of their life. But what I hate more than that is someone who does not give their pet proper care and I am unable to do that for Thistle now. This was a heart wrenching decision that was not made lightly.
Is there anyone in or around the Washington state area that has some room and love for Thistle? I want her to go to someone who had experience with southern flying squirrels because she doesn't deserve to have this happen to her again. Thank you everyone for taking the time to read this post.

I wish you luck finding a forever home for Thistle. I know how hard this must be. :hug I'm not sure how many members we have in that region. Hopefully someone will know of someone and chime in. :grouphug

Thanks, Mel. When I was active in the forums I noticed that there were not a lot of members in the pacific northwest, but I'm hoping hats changed or that someone might know someone out here or something.

I just thought of this, send a private message to Duckman, he's out there and
has a lot of connections.
Good luck with this little one. :Love_Icon

I would be more than happy to take this wonderful Flyer myself. What part of Washington are you in? I will answer your PM and get the required information from you. We are a licensed Wildlife rehab center, so she will be well taken care of and she will be legally a Non-Release, so you won't have to worry about the state finding out and taking her and euthanizing her. We are located in Vancouver Washington. Please let me know and we will get together! Thank you for loving her enough to ensure she has as much of a fulfilling life as possible. I know how hard it is to part with them, but it is harder to see them depressed and unhappy, sitting in a cage. We just got a 14 year old Eastern Grey that was in similar circumstances and he is up and running around the house very happy, so I know PeeWee will do fine with the change as well. :Love_IconPeeWee:Love_Icon

Hey everyone, I got in touch with Duckman and we are currently making plans to meet up to bring Thistle to her new forever home. Thank you all so much for helping me find a capable person to take care of her so quickly. This is really hard for me but I know we are making the best decision for our baby squirrel.

So you said Thistle is a southern flyer. You do know you can't put a southern flyer with northern flyer . Did you get her here in Washington?

I did not get her here in Washington. I got her from a breeder in Texas.

Arrangements are all made and we will meet tomorrow to begin Thistle's new chapter in her life. I do want to say thank you to shelbyshnee26 for realizing that Thistle needed more than you were able to give at this point in life. This is a huge sacrifice for you and I know you aren't doing this for yourself but rather doing what is right and needed for Thistle. That to me shows great strength and character. Thank you for allowing me to continue Thistle's journey in the coming years! :Love_Icon:Love_Icon:Love_Icon

Thistle is home now and is resting comfortably down my shirt. She has explored the house for a bit but finally wanted to rest, so I opened my shirt and zip, she was down. I will get pictures later, once she settles down (and they stop the fire works here. :Love_Icon Thistle :Love_Icon
