Hello Everyone,

I am saddened to have to write this today, but I think it's time to say our goodbyes.
for the past few weeks, my three year old Moby has been acting up running to and from the window non-stop, I feel that he's trying to tell me that he wants out, he has been the best part of the last three years in my home, and its sad that I dont have a back yard to release him in, I would have wished nothing more than to have a backyard where I can see him live his life free and happy yet be able to see him everyday, but the chances of that happening are slim and I dont think waiting another year to see if its possible to get a house and release him in it is too long.

I tried to wait and see about his behavior hoping that it was just heat or mating season, but its not going away.

your help and advise at this time would mean a whole lot.

RamiS, it does sound to me like little Moby may be stating to wild up. Does he get plenty of out of cage time daily with lots of enrichment? I have a male around the same age who does get hormonal a couple of times a year around this time and it usually lasts a good month where he will exhibit marked behavioral changes. That being said, I know you don't want to see your little guy unhappy and pacing if he indeed longs for the trees and is stating to wild up like most squirrels eventually do. I know it's hard to think about parting with your little guy.:grouphug But that may be what's best for him if he continues to exhibit restless behavior. Where are you located in Oklahoma in case we need to try and find someone to release him for you?

Hey, Thank's for you'r response.

he's only in his cage when I leave between 12pm-5pm, and he's out the cage from 7am-12pm, 5pm-8pm. I mean I think that is plenty of time:bliss

The pacing dosent stop, he just keeps on running from one place to the other, Iv'e been around wild-outdoor squirrels all my life, and they are fairly come compared to him:tap I just worry that he might be sad or depressed, he is a part of the house and losing him would be so sad, I faced this decision when I first rescued him three years ago, but I decided to keep him.

it was always my goal to have a back yard where I live so that I can build him an outdoor cage connected to one of the rooms so he can be free to decide where he wants to live, but its taking longer than I thought, it might be another 5-6 months until I can move into a house with a yard, and by that time it would be winter so I'd have to wait a year to do this for him, and to be honest I cant travel or spend the whole day out without worrying about his wellbeing !!

I dont know what to do, I want the best of both worlds:dono:dono :dono

Oh I understand your dilemma and I know you want him to be happy. I did want to clairify one thing - I'm not sure about releasing a squirrel that is three years old already. Since he is getting older, I'm don't know if that would effect his ability to adapt as well to to the outdoors or not. Hopefully someone with more experience in that can give some input there. Hope little Moby will mellow soon with you.:grouphug

How is Moby doing? Your idea of having a yard and building outdoor cage attached to house with access to an indoor room (or part of a room) will definitely work, because you can keep the release cage closed until spring.
That would definitely be the best of both worlds. It sounds perfect, please do not give up on those plans.

Hey there, He's doing good, these days he's not eating much if any at all, he wont eat his blocks or green beans:tap, but he's done this before, I am sure he will bounce back.

I am actually moving to Colorado in the spring :grin3, my problem now is that he's back to pacing like crazy all day long, AGAIN!!

How have you been, long time no talk! any new furry friends on your side?:serene
