From research done of other animal skin diseases and conditions, Pycnogenol may serve to support healing lesions from Squirrel Pox.

Should anyone desire to use this source, be sure you use very little as it is concentrated, and higher in oxalates.

Add 1/8 Tsp. of the Aronia juice to 1/4 cup of filtered water and add 1/2 Tsp. of Organic cocowater, as this is a naturally good source of electrolytles.

It is assumed that other than direct contact, this insects ae responsible for the transmission of this disease from squirrel to squirrel in the wild.

Take care to regard the necessary precautions not to let mosquitos into your home, and to prevent flea infestations.

Pycnogenol (PYC) is also noted to be a cancer preventative, as it is anti viral containing very high levels of powerful anti oxidants compounds.

PYC from capsule (1 mg.) by oral route, added to organic applesauce 1/8 th Tsp. , as this will help to cover the bitter taste and support the uptake of this source better.

This source from the US made from White Birch Bark, all organic, non GMO, peaked my interest amongst similar sources offered online, as it is noted to be anti-viral and has been used for Chicken pox in particular. And that this source is noted to use organic vegetable glycerin for the base.

As to dosage unsure, but since it is less potent than pycnogenol 0.1 mg. should be ok to use.

This company makes a number of tinctures all organic and/or defacto organic wild sources.

I found list of trees toxic to rats included birch and beech; this is strange since tree squirrels are known to strip hte bark of the Paper Birch.

In anycase, to stay on the safer side, I would go with the Pine Pycnogenol, as pine is non toxic to rodents.

That is, dried pine is safer.


Pycnogenol, studied over 40 years, in 100 studies done, was found to improve various ill health conditions in rats.

In reading about pox viruses like Herpes Zoster, it is noted that Lysine inhibits Pox viruses, while Arginine fuels them.


Protein foods contain varying amounts of amino acids, two of which are lysine and arginine. The herpes virus is able to use the amino acid arginine to reproduce in the nucleus of your cells. Its ability to replicate helps the virus successfully infect your body during an outbreak. Further explaination of the roles that these amino acids (Lysine and Arginine) respectively play in the inhibition or replication of pox viruses, with research references.

Though it is evident that dairy products contain arginine also, that they are considerably higher in Lysine is what lends to the suppression of arginine and in turn the inhibition of pox viruses, not just those sources that don't contain arginine at all.

To address Parapox virus on the cellular level, Calcium 2 AEP offers support to block the virus from entering cells:


Calcium 2-AEP (2-amino-ethyl-phosphate): is a lipid delivery system. It delivers the mineral to the outer layer of the cell membrane, creating a sealing effect..a cellular patch. It is also known as the membrane integrity factor since it binds and acts as a sealant...preventing the entry of viruses and toxins into the cell.


AEP is the therapeutic workhorse in this compound. Croton lechleri, known as sangre de drago (dragon's blood), is used as a "liquid bandage", as well as for other medicinal purposes, by native peoples.

Apparently it is alkaloid, no expert on the source. There is much to learn about the sap source before considering using it to treat skin conditions including parapox. It is included in a list of, 'inventions', potential application of its use, one of which was found to counter parapox. Please proceed with care.

IMPORTANT: The, 'generic name, "Dragon's Blood" refers to more than one plant source. The source is a cinnabar iss a highly toxic source to humans, livestock, is not the croton plant that is referenced here.

On another note, Pycnogenol, a polyphenol edible source that is the extract of the cambium layer of pinaster pine grown organically, has been studies over 50 years in over 100 studies many of which have been in laboratory rodents. It has many properties, one of which is that it is anti viral, anti inflammatory, and has been found to increase healing in skin lesions, it also can be applied externally. It would be prudent to consider using a cone when using an external preparation of PYC for Parapox.

Sad to report there is a new geno of squirrel pox that has been confirmed in Red squirrels in Germany.


Abstract
Near Berlin, Germany, several juvenile red squirrels (Sciurus vulgaris) were found with moist, crusty skin lesions. Histology, electron microscopy, and cell culture isolation revealed an orthopoxvirus-like infection. Subsequent PCR and genome analysis identified a new poxvirus (Berlin squirrelpox virus) that could not be assigned to any known poxvirus genera.


Although no sequence information is available for the SQPV from Spain, the partial sequence analysis of SQPV from Canada showed the virus to also be distinct from all known mammalian poxviruses but most closely related to PPV, followed by UK SQPV
