289459Hey all!
Maple is doing great! She is 13 weeks and a little chunky monkey! But I am thinking it may be time To release her !
She is super friendly and sweet so I'm scared she is going to get run off we have quite a few squirrels in our woods. We are thinking of building her a box on our chicken coop? That she can come and go from whenever she pleases.
My biggest concerns are other squirrels running her off.
I've put her outside in her cage the last two days but being her in at night.
I'm not sure what the proper way to release is?
Also I'm really attached so I want to give her the best chance at survival.
She is not aggressive at all super friendly I mean super friendly like she enjoys her ears pet and her nose kissed.
Any advice??

Ok, so you are putting her in a release cage, or like, a regular cage during the day?

Here is some info about how to release:

Info on building your release cage: https://thesquirrelboard.com/forums/showthread.php?40471-Building-an-outdoor-release-cage

Chicken coop nest box: They have to be at least 10 or 15 feet (I forget) from the ground and should be on or very near a tree, so other critters can't get at them at night.

As for the squirrels running her off you can only do so much about that. You can offer her food for a while, a nest box, etc, but you can't control the wilds or the pecking order out there. She may stick around or decide to find another territory.
(Both of mine come around every other day or so for nuts. Lots of releases stick around!)

Rest assured she is equipped to handle herself.
