well just my luck.. today, the day before i was going to put Lilo in her outside cage, she escaped outside on her own.. had windows open a crack last night ( as always) and somehow she fit through and ate a hole in the screen. i came home from work and have been out looking for her and calling her.. shaking the nut container, but no luck.. she is almost a year old.. was going to put her out sooner, but the weather was crappy until now..
maybe she will come home at dusk? any tips.. ive walked around all directions. we live in the country..so she could be anywhere..
guess all i can do is wait till this evening...and leave food for her in the tree that is beside the window
Mine were 10 months this spring when I put them into the release cage. They were beyond ready and not even phased.
I let them out after a week and one ran off and came back the next morning and hung in the cage for a couple of days. The other came back a week later during morning feeding.
They comes back almost every morning, but (terrified as I was) managed just fine the first night. They were hopping around with the other squirrels to the point that I didn't even recognize them the following morning.
The point being that you are still 'HOME' to her and she may be hiding close to home and just out for the night.
Also, I used binoculars to find Frances the first day.
Good luck. I do hope you see her very soon!

omg. what luck. i found her! there is a squirrel nest in one of our trees..and i heard a baby making a fuss...and i saw her in the same tree .at first wasnt sure if it was her..but it was.. after coaxing her with the food for the outside guys i was able to grab her :)
well she had her first day out in the trees.. im thinking she wont need to stay in her release cage quite as long as i thought if she managed one day on her own.

well this morning lilo seemed normal. having breakfast and chilling with me.. when i went to double check her before leaving ..she had crawled back into her nest in the closet..she has never gone back to bed this early... should i be worried? or is she pouting after her one day of freedom? im placing her into release cage tomorrow morning.

She could just be totally exhausted from her big outing.
I don't think this is anything to worry about, let her rest! :)

yep you were right. she was back to normal when i got home...im putting her in release cage tomorrow morning. tonight she was standing at the window.. and i swear she was longing to be outside..selfish part of me is full of worry, for her survival and wants to hold on to her.. the part that loves her the most is excited that she will have her freedom soon. she was having a ball yesterday no doubt..now i may have to rescue the baby or babies that helped me find her...fingers crossed all goes well
