I have a little guy who had a super rough start but is officially living it up now :) but... he's miserable with mosquito bites. I've seen where flea treatment is ok, and I found a flea treatment that claims misquito repellent. Is it ok to use on a squirrel? It's Hartz Ultra Guard Pro. Topical flea and tick prevention for cats and kittens. Active Ingredients: Etofenprox 40% (s)-methoprene 3.6%, other ingredients 56.4%.288971288970

I would not use a Hartz product on sweet Ron.

Is there anything I can do/use to help him with the mosquitoes

I really don't. Have you used Revolution to stop fleas and ticks? Maybe there is a natural oil of some wort, but I am not sure.

Are you giving Ron an immune booster?
Were you using the CAOH on him?
I would offer him some in his outdoor water bowl.

Is Ron in a cage outside?

I have heard that lemongrass plants repel mosquitoes, I have no experience yet to verify this. I am growing 6 at the moment to line my outdoor patio this summer. Maybe you could try a few lemongrass plants nearby, just a thought.

I read that mosquitoes don't fly off the ground higher than 20 feet, so squirrels up in their dreys do not have mosquito issues. I don't know if this is true or not. I'd be curious if anyone else knows of this.

Nylon window screen is really inexpensive. Why don't you cover the outside of his cage with the "mosquito" screen which is the finest? That way you don't have to use an insecticide on him...

He's not caged anymore. He's in the tress just scratches constantly. He has never been the type to be petted, but came down and sat on the arm of my chair (I'm the only one he will come near) and accepted scratches for almost an hour.... he was perfectly still minus when he decided I wasn't getting the spot and he would scratch himself :) the mosquitoes are horrible this year because our winter didn't get cold enough to kill anything and his area he was released is next to a small lake.i read the same about lemon grass, maybe I'll put some at the base of the tree his house ii in.

Are you positive he has mosquito bites? Could it be that he has mites? They would cause lots of itching too.

As a rehabber reminded me some years ago, itching can be from molting this time of year also.

If you see mange on him, often around the eye when not an extensive infection, then giving ivermectin by putting the recommended measured drop dose on a piece of walnut to feed to him, should address that issue. I gave this to a wild with the support of a rehabber, who told me that if it didn't clear up with the first dose (one drop from a needle syringe as I recall, but check with those here that are knowledge on that first before dosing) to give a 2nd dose in a few weeks. The next year, and those that followed, if I saw the area around the eyes was again infected, I gave another dose.

I've seen no evidence of anything past him itching. His coat looks great. I assumed mosquitoes because I'm covered in bites from the little bit of time I've spent out there... he's there 24/7... it's best guess.

I've had another thought... how badly would poison ivy effect him? He has no visible rash... but there is quite a bit in that general area. It doesn't bother me, so I tend to forget about it.

If I see itching...I use Revolution. Maybe that would help? :dono
