When we get Dixie out to play, after 5-10 min. shes spread out laying down hot. She'll lay for a minute or 2, then back to playing. Then it repeats. I would think shes to young to get tired so quick? Why does she get so hot? I can fell the heat on her belly and head. We have central AC.

Be careful never to leave a squirrel outdoors in the direct sunlight though, they can overheat quickly and suffer fatal heat stroke. When out doors they must be able to get out of the sun and have access to fresh water. Direct sunlight can be deadly even on not so warm of days...

But being inside, out of the sun and in the AC this is normal behavior. :thumbsup

Just a note,

From what I have read, the normal body temperature of a squirrel is higher than that of a human. That might help them survive the cold outside in the winter, better than we humans would. But I think that also might make them get overheated faster in the summer, when they run and exert all the energy they do.

I have watched many wilds, pancake, for a minute or two, right in the middle of wild running and chasing. Then they are off again. I suspect they do this to help regulate their temperature. They don't do this in the winter, only in the hotter days.

I want to thank all that replied. I was just worried about her. I knew they cant be in direct sun, when I took her in her cage, we were in the shade.
