I just found a flea on Jenny. I'm giving her a bath with dawn, but am wondering if it is safe to use kitten flea repellent/killer on her like advantage or frontline.

The dawn will kill the fleas, it would not be necessary to use a flea killer and ones mentioned are not recommended.
You do understand I hope that where flea/mite chemical killers are used such as Revolution (Recommended on this site)
it is only one drop between the shoulders for a squirrel. Not the whole pipette/ container/ dose.

No to Advantage or Frontline.
IF anything use Revolution like stepnstone suggested.
BUT, like stepnstone, I think the Dawn should take care of it though.

I use Cat Advantage on any squirrel that comes in with bugs. it kills them really quick and is way less stress on them than a bath. It kills the buggers in a few hours.

No Advantage! It can and does cause seizures. Just this week I was asked to help a little one that was seizing for 4 days after receiving a topical dose of Advantage. Revolution or Ivermectin is the way to go...AFTER you try the Dawn bath.

Really? I've been using it since 2008 and never ever once had a problem.

The problem with Revolution at least in NY is I can't get it without a vet script. I'm not trying to say you're wrong, just sharing my own experience.

I owe you a phone call too. Hugs.

Yes, it was quite alarming too. Not the first time I've heard of it, but the first time I was asked to help with it after the seizures started. It seems that some do fine and others...not so much....just too risky.

I have heard several incidences against the use of Advantage, it very possibly could be one in a hundred but
even that is not a risk I'd take with any I care for or a risk I'd subject anyone else to. As stated Revolution is
what's recommended on this site, it's proven to be safe and that is the information we strive to put out.
It can be ordered on line when necessary.

I reposted this a couple of times over the last two weeks.

Just sharing our experience with this flea med for future reference.

Our Vet was no longer carrying Revolution so we got Advantage Multi instead. I applied just a tiny drop onto Totoro (out almost 3 yr old epileptic fox squirrel). Within about 8 hrs after application she had a very violent seizure. She had been seizure free for the past 4 months.

I don't know for certain that the Advantage is responsible for this reaction, but it seems likely. Maybe this flea med is okay for 100% health problem free adult squirrels and not anything lesser....but it seems the consensus here is to go with Revolution. I will be visiting other vets in the future to get Revolution instead and would not recommend using Advantage Multi to others.

IF YOUR PET IS SUFFERING FROM AN ADVERSE REACTION TO FLEA DROPS, WASH THEM OFF IMMEDIATLY!

And on a side note: Never never ever use over the counter flea drops. Esspecialy not anything from the brand Hartz. Years ago when flea drops were a new thing, hartz started selling some OTC flea drops. I applied some to my cat and the next morning she was experiencing tremors(light twitching all over body and back and forth eye movement...not unlike a seizure). Called the number on the back of box and they told us to go to the vet. Then the vet told us to go home and call the number on the back of the box! No help at all!!!! So we washed the cat off and she quickly returned to normal.

Ive known ivermectin to cause seizures as well. What dosing do you use to prevent seizures from happening? :thinking

I don't know how this site legally sells revolution without an RX... But I'm grateful! Just placed an order for other items for my domestics as well! THANK YOU!

It is sold legally because unlike the U.S. prescription is not required in that country to purchase.
