View Full Version : Please, ideas on how to deter squirrels from certain areas

I know that such questions have been sort of discussed, but I am posting again in hopes there is a working method/solution.

The situation is dire (fitting for emergency, but didn't want to distract from babies).

Someone is dealing with an excuse for a human being as a newly moved neighbor.
This neighbor wishes he could kill all the squirrels in the backyard, on the lawn, on the street and elsewhere. He hates them. The only reason he's not killing them is because his little daughter loves animals.

However, even that does not stop him
He traps them and drops at a nearby park (which is already chock full of squirrels, which means these drop offs will have to migrate some place else, but since this park is surrounded by streets with heavy busy traffic, it means ...).

He's already trapped 5.
He trapped one of this person's released babies.
He does not listen to anything AT ALL.
He doesn't care if there may be nursing mothers
He doesn't care if he has to keep trapping them - ppl tried explaining to him that even if he traps all the old timers, new ones will come because of the free territory.
He set himself a mission of eliminating them all
It is possible that if he gets frustrated, he'll deal with them in a very harsh way ...
People tried nicely talking to him and reasoning, but no use whatsoever.

So, now the question is if there are any effective ways to re-direct the remaining sqs away from this jerk.
Has anyone tried successfully to deter sqs from going to certain places?
(My personal experiences with this aren't extensive nor successful).

I remember someone tried human urine or something. Has it worked?
I doubt it will be possible to compromise his traps. (And how?)

Please, any and all ideas on how to deter the sqs from where he is, and maybe on how to stop him?
I think he may be all worked up over his pathetic puny patch he calls "garden," or some overall landscaping or something (just my guess).

Please share what worked for you!!!

Does he have a dog? Probably the best deterrent I can think of.

But he doesn't exactly sound like somebody that should be a dog owner, either, although I've certainly come across people who somehow have great love for their own pets, but absolutely no compassion for any other creatures.

Hmmm...

I remember someone tried human urine or something. Has it worked?I doubt this guy would accept being peed on, but you could always give it a try and see what happens. ;)

I use Fox urine very successfully. For some reason the squirrels love to chew the BF's truck....wire harnesses and gas lines have all been replaced at least twice and one wire harness was replaced 3 times in 3 days. :eek

I went to the sporting goods store and bought a spray bottle of Fox urine....Sprayed the bejesus out of everything...yes I shimmied under the truck and sprayed up (wear something over your face if you do this).....

Whenever it rains I have to reapply. No more chewings. It stinks and it takes work to get a good coating but it works.

I also left a urine soaked rag under his hood next to the 3rd replacement harness.

I'm not sure where you are located, but I think I would look into any city or county ordinances that might be able to prevent him from relocating the squirrels.

I'm sorry he is being such a jerk.

Thank you all so much for replying so fast!

Meglos - if peeing on him were an option, that would be awesome.
And no, he doesn't have a dog. He seems to hate anyone non-human.

Milo's Mom - thank you for sharing that! I'll pass that along. I hope they can find it here and hopefully, it will work.
3 (!) harness replacements in three days ! I know it's not funny at all, but kind of makes me smile thinking of the sqs' determination :).

yes I shimmied under the truck and sprayed up (wear something over your face if you do this).....
:D for sure

Mel1959 - that was considered, but the thing is - the people who deal with this jerk are afraid that may end up hurting them, too: they have a NR and more indoor pets than allowed - all rescues, and strictly indoor, but with all the "good" neihbors one can't be too careful. That's why they are trying to see if there may be a way to deal with this jerk without involving authorities.

They are going to look for fox urine.

But here it rains all year and snows for about 6 months on average, so were wondering if there are other ways to alternate with fox urine. :thinking
