I found a baby gray squirrel today when I got home. It's cold and raining out, and there are cats all over the neighborhood; so I took him inside and got him warmed up. I'll probably give him some Pedialyte and formula soon.

Does anyone know what's the best course with this guy? May he have been left there by his mother who will be back? Should we just raise him and release him in a month or two? We found Imp under similar circumstances and waited too long, so he ended up an indoor squirrel. I'd like to avoid that with this little one if possible.

I would try at least once to re-unite with mom. Squirrels are most active at dawn and dusk, so if it's not pouring rain anymore at sundown today you could warm him up and see if mom is around where you found him. Use the 'baby squirrel alarm call' on your phone if you can, to get mom's attention.

Do you think mom would take him out of a box or blanket? Or will I need to put him on the concrete?

I would try a box - you can actually attach one to the tree if you know which one the nest is in. I have seen members have success reuniting with mom this way in the past. And I worry that just laying her on the concrete would make her a target to nearby predators. Prayers the reuniting with mom will be successful.:Love_Icon

If you try to reunite, keep an eye on the box.
Also if you can, play the sound of a baby squirrel calling
for mom, we have seen this work as well.

He has been making this sound Imp never made when I try to feed him. It's like a groggy low pitch (for a rodent) grunt. Like the grunt sound toddlers make when they want something and we have to say "use your words".

Up date please?? What's the status of this little one? Was it successfully reunited with mom? If not, how is he doing?
