Hi everyone! Happy Friday! :dance So Im in a pickle with Tiny & need advice...he's a 4 mon old male flyer I've had for about 2 mons now (got him from a couple whose cat brought him home). I tried to integrate him in with my 4 flyers (they are now 6 mos old) but Tiny doesn't play nice. He's a harpie...constantly chasing the Quads & driving them nuts! They stay in their pouch & away from the food/water b/c he ambushes them. He does this butt thing where he curves his butt around & stomps his feet at them, then jumps on their back. They dont like him at all. Ends up in squabbles every time. :fish:hammer:bash:mallet

So this past Saturday I got a new rescue - a 7 week old female flyer, Zena (squirrel warrior :duel ). Was hoping 1-on-1 they would get along since she's female (my Quads are 3 males, 1 female) & younger than him. Well...not so much. First meeting he attacked her (no blood) & scared the wits out of her. Even through the bars he tries to get her. Last night I was handing her, then put my hand in his cage to get him & he bit me, hard...twice! :tap Once I washed my hands he was fine. So I dont think they are a good match (and her being younger & smaller - I dont want to chance it). He's much more wild than my Quads. He's old enough & ready for release, and I think he'll do fine outdoors. I know they should not be released as a single, but this guy isnt leaving me much choice by "not playing well with others". He is not the classic "social" flyer.

What do I do with him???? Should I put him out in RC same time as Quads this weekend & let them sort it out (neutral, large cage)? Do I put his indoor cage outside next to the RC & turn him loose same time as the Quads, but keep them in separate cages outdoors until then? Then he can go his own way when the door opens?

Roxi's Mom has a female flyer same age as my Quads (so 2 mon older than Tiny) & she offered to take him to put with Roxi....but at this point, I dont think he will get along with anyone! And I dont want to pass the problem on to Roxi's Mom if he fights her girl. She'll be in same boat as me, trying to figure out what to do with a single heathen flyer. :devil

Happy Friday! Just thought I'd give an update...with photos! We have SUCCESS! :dance The Quads & Tiny have been in the RC for 2 weeks now....and everyone is getting along! :grouphug I put both pouches in the RC (4 Quads in one, Tiny in the other), plus they have their 3 story wooden flyer condo (built by my own self - quiet proud of my woodworking skills!). Tiny moved into the wooden condo first night, then much to my amazement, all 4 Quads moved in the next day with him! Everyone is getting along great! Now, the last few days 2 of the Quads have moved back into Tinys old pouch, but everyone is still getting along. They are eating great & loving their new environment. Of course, I had hubby put the RC up against the house backing up to the office window so I can just open the window & talk to them & check on them at night. Tried to get him to run a dryer hose from RC thru window screen into house so they could visit :idea , but it was a no-go! (heehee). :shakehead

Most precious....when I go out in the morning & evening to replenish their food, 2 of the Quads come running, leap out onto me & straight into my shirt! One usually curls up & goes sleepy night-night. They poke their heads up at me for sugar (love these guys):Love_Icon....then i notice hubby staring at me thru the sliders...."I didnt know letting them jump in your shirt was part of the release program....." he says...hummm...busted. :tap

No far so good....no ants. I used food grade DE on the ground around their RC & some in bottom mixed in with leaves. Was able to rub some on their furs too. Still trying to figure out how to keep mosquitoes away...ugh...i hate those buggers!

On a side note....I have a 10 week old flyer (Zena) in the house alone...was hoping someone might have another one around same age that i could get to put with Zena so she's not a loner...she still has 7-8 weeks before release, but I dont know what to do with her w/out a buddy. Would be glad to take one (or more) baby flyers for release from someone thats super busy!

Jenn
PS - you can see a little flyer head sticking out of the one pick of the wooden condo!

Great job on the condo!! Wonderful news about your flyers. It's about time Tiny decided to play nice in the sandbox. I hope someone has a buddy for Zena. :dance
