So earlier today, one of my neighbors from the other end of my street came and knocked on my door. She told me there is a squirrel that ran into her covered porch and would not leave. She asked me if it was one of mine, and I told her I was not missing any. I told her that I would come over and take a look.

When I got there, the squirrel was facing the corner of the wall in her porch and just sat there. I was able to pet it and pick it up. The squirrel was apposed and tried to get free, but was very lethargic.

Upon further inspection I noticed that it was a nursing momma or a momma to be. I put her in my carrier that I brought, but before I could zip up the door, she got out.

Now Like I said, she was lethargic, so she didn't run that fast or try to run away much at all. She didn't even seem all that afraid of me ether. I wanted catch her and find out what was wrong, but she snuck under the fence and got away.

I told my neighbor to look out for her and possibly babies around the area in the next week or two; as momma could die soon and the babies will come looking for food.

What do you guys think could be wrong? I don't see a pregnant mother being lethargic and acting this way, nor a nursing mother?

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Doesn't sound good. No way no wild should let you catch it. It should also bite the snot out of you if you did. Think you will be seeing her again. Sorry:boohoo

:dono No idea...but very sad....I would think she's in dire straits if she came looking for help and safety...we've seen this happen before. I think your advice to the neighbor was correct. There's not much more you can do...if you could have followed her under the fence:eek just kidding...but if you could follow her to her nest...you'd be able to assess the situation...does she have babies...is she close to delivering:dono sadly, sometimes we can't help :sadness if I was your neighbor....I'd leave the door open on the porch and watch for her to return. Leave some fresh water and food :great Good luck....and thank you for trying to help her :bowdown

They can experience a sudden-onset MBD like issue when the babies tax their systems too much. Make some "calcium bombs". Mix up some calcium powder or some crushed up Tums with enough peanut butter and ground up nuts to hold it all together and taste good. Let her have all she wants. Even if this is another problem, the calcium will do nothing but help her out.

Great point about the MBD symptoms. If I find her, I will defiantly try giving her calcium.
