Hi guys! So i just picked up a new flyer rescue an hour ago. Shes 7 weeks old & full fur. When i got home, took her out to give her the once over inspection....she has dried formula on her chin & "bib" area on her chest. Whats an easy way to get it off wth out submurging her in water....shes wiggly & kind of jumpy. I used warm wet wash cloth to get some off her chin. Even though i was very gentle, it took a chunk of fur wth it & now shes bald in that spot. Too freaked out to try her chest...flyer skin is so delicate. Im afraid ill leave her bald or make her skin bleed!! :eek. None of my guys have ever had dried formula on them!!!

You might try very warm water with dawn dish soap in it. Dip your finger in and rub the soap into the fur with a circular motion. Then use plain water and a wash cloth to soak up the soap and rinse the fur.

You could try a flea comb or toothbrush dipped in soapy water after you really saturate the area and see if that helps loosen it.

As always make sure baby is very dry and stays warm during and after the bath.

Good luck!

Jennefer, I would definitely do a spot wash. I would not bathe a flyer. Their hair is so dense it is almost impossible to dry. I'll tell you about my experience with that when I see you ... big mistake. :shakehead

Don't worry about the hair coming out. There is nothing you can do about that. Milk burn and hair loss are just the way it is when formula has been left on fur. Poor baby.

Thanks ladies!!! Great ideas...didnt even think of the dawn dish soap. Will keep her warm for sure.

What is milk burn & what does it look like? Ive just nvr had dried stuff on my babies b/c i am careful to not dribble & i wipe those tiny lips! :gigg

Sounds like our chin....chins cant get wet...only dry sandy baths since their fur is so dense. It will get moldy. Ewwww

Milk burn is just inflamed red skin around the chin and chest from formula left on the skin.

Does it go away on its own, or do you have to treat it?

Usually it's mild and goes away on its own when they are cleaned.
