For a few days now my 2 have been going potty on their own. They are 7 weeks and 2 days. The problem is with my little boy, Scrappy. His little belly and legs are CONSTANTLY wet with urine and now he is really irritated from his belly down. He constantly grooms himself so I am afraid to put neosporin on him. I do bathe him twice a day using Dawn and I have put unscented coconut oil on him but it hasn't helped. Is this normal for boys? Could something be wrong with him? They are together in a 30Lx18wx18h cage with 3/4 of it covered in carefresh and 1/4 with fleece. I have ordered a couple of fleece cubes but it will be a little while before they get here. Rose seems to have no problem using the bathroom in a corner but Scrappy is often soaking wet when I get him out. Anyone ever have this problem? Please help! I feel so sorry for him!

Obviously getting urine scald, does his urine have a strong smell about it?
Have you been able to observe the color of it?
I've personally never had the problem with any of my males but have read
where some other's have. Not certain if they were treated for a UTI but
could be a possibility.

I pottied him yesterday to see if that would help keep him dry and I always potty on a white paper towel and from what I remember it is clear. That poor baby absolutely REEKS. The smell will not even wash out with Dawn, so, it was hard for me to tell if his fresh urine had much of a smell. He is eating very well and has his bouts where is runs around and plays. Doesn't seem to feel sick but that may not mean a thing. Since it doesn't seem to be normal, I will get him in to see the vet. Thank you.

Seeing a veterinarian that will treat squirrels is always the best option when having to guess at a situation.
I would be interested in what your vet finds or has to say.

Throwing this out there for what it's worth. Back about 30 years ago when I worked as a nurses aide we had one lady that was incontinent and had the nastiest smelling urine. That odor always lingered on her skin after washing. One day a cheap bottle of rose scented body wash type stuff showed up in her drawer. I used it to wash her bottom and low and behold no more smell.....til she wet herself again. I know it won't help with the urine burn but I wonder if a few drops of a scented body wash would take care of the odor on this little ones stinky bottom.

I would be concerned that anything scented would cause
more irritation and burn her already raw sensitive areas.

Scooter gets urine scald. He's incontinent. He gets a salt water bath every other day and Dermagel. There are times I slather him with A&D ointment before he goes to sleep. I also keep clean tissues in his cube. They absorb pee and keep it away from him. He's done better since I started stuffing some tissues in his nest. He likes tissues! I'm interested in what the vet has to say. Urine scald is EVIL stuff. I've even powdered a little raw bottom with cornstarch baby powder. Not much and not shaken on--just put on a tissue and patted on the bad parts. I hope the vet will find what the problem is and fix it!

pure organic aloe vera gel (you can even buy an aloe vera leaf at the market and use the gel inside) works wonderfully to help minimize discomfort from, and heal, raw, burned, irritated skin.
if your market doesn't carry the whole aloe vera leaf in the produce section, you can buy a pre-packed product. Just make sure it contains no alcohol or perfumes. Pure and organic is best.

Thanks for the idea! I made up a batch of shampoo I used for my dog who passed. I used unscented baby Castile soap, a couple of drops of lavender essential oil and a bit of coconut oil. It took away the smell! Yaay!

I have some on hand. I'll use it right now. Thanks!

I was unable to get Scrappy in to the vet today because of the weather here in FL. Tornado warnings and all the schools were closed down. I started giving him colloidal silver (controversial, I know, but I feel having it in an emergency on occasion will not hurt), he's had a little unsweetened cranberry juice and his next formula will have a little dmannos with cranactin and a couple of drops of grapefruit seed oil. Hopefully this will start clearing him up until I get in to see the vet tomorrow. He did wake up wet again BUT his bedding was dry. I'll post again after his vet visit! Thanks for all the help and keep it coming! Lol

So I thought the vet I was taking Scrappy to treated squirrels on the regular but apparently they are more for "exotic" pets. I guess when I called they assumed it was wet tail. Anyway, they basically said he was fine and to keep ointment on his urine burns and to keep doing what I was doing. They called him a "dribbler" lol So basically poor Scrappy is just a pee pants. Poor baby! But I will continue giving him unsweetened cranberry juice and a little colloidal silver for a few more days just in case. He is always wet but his bedding was dry during his 4 am feeding. The tissues may be helping and I started using neosporin last night and he was barely red this morning. I sure hope he outgrows this soon for his sake! But no worries! He still gets lots and lots of loving and snuggles despite his little problem! :grin3

Has he outgrown this? My babies have started peeing on their own and my boy is always soaked and stinks. I am changing the cage constantly. I hate to bath him too much but I'm sure urine is much worse.

Hi Tammy! I ended up giving Scrappy some antibiotics and that seemed to help with the worst of it. He would still urinate in his fleece cube on occasion though he stayed dry most of the time. I feel your pain! I would bathe Scrappy twice a day and slather coconut oil on his little raw belly and if it got too red looking I would add some neosporin. Poor guy! I hope this helps!

Samson's sister has been suckling on his penis and I'm wondering if that's the problem. I've been keeping them separated more and hopefully that'll help. I'm glad you found a solution.
