This is what I found.
"Buprenorphine Successfully Treats Opioid Addiction"
Buprenorphine is a partial agonist opioid; It can generate the usual opioid agonist effects but, not as greatly as those produced by full agonists, such as heroin and methadone. Full agonist opioids have the risk of side effects, abuse, and addiction. Not only does Buprenorphine have fewer risks, but it can negate all the effects of opioid agonists, and even lessen withdrawal symptoms in an addict whose bloodstream is currently carrying a full agonist."

Don't know if this will help but my vet had prescribed this for my cat. He was 11 lbs at the time.
Buprenorphine 0.5 mg - Dosed @ 0.05 - 0.1ml 1-3 x daily.

Betsy: here's what Pilny dosed for an adult with abcesses that I had a few years ago: i kept the bottle:

injectable 0.3 mg/ml

give 0.1ml 3x day PO for pain

Angel is on Buprenex now and has been on it off and on since August 2013.

He weighs 580 grams and the dose he now takes is as follows:

Buprenorphine (Buprenex) .5mg/ml
Give .04ml by mouth every 12 hours (twice a day) as needed for pain.

That dose works really well but when he is not in too much pain I cut it down to .02ml by mouth one to three times a day as needed for pain. Either of the above doses work very well.

Yup...I went and found it! The dose we gave was correct. Just checking on the vet's dosing. It isn't my wildlife vet so we were suspicious...:grin3

And by the way, very funny Nancy...:tap As if I could take something that slowed me down more than age already has!:grin3

Thank goodness Betsy found my quote -- I was looking all over for it until I had to leave for a going-away party. Thought I stlll had the Bupe bottle with the dosage on it but I guess I finally threw it out.
