I just got off the phone with my hubby Kevin and he told me some disturbing news. Beau- one of our hand raised orphans- released in Aug 05 has got a sticky trap on her back. She came in thru the screen of our living room- jumped up on the island and grabbed a peanut. She ran upstairs and some how got a sticky trap on her back. We get the odd mouse up there so we put one out. I'm at work right now and I haven't seen her yet but I'm really worried. Those things are so sticky it could be life threatening especially if it gets caught on a tree with her attached to it. I just want to be at home right now!!!! I hope it will come off in the rain. What do I do??? What can I do??? She comes to me lots and lets me pett her but grabbing this sticky trap is another story. Gotta go- I'm worried!

Oh no! Poor thing! If it's just on her fur you should be able to get it off without much trouble. I just hope it doesn't touch her skin or anything. Can your hubby pet her? Could he get it off? I know Little Fart (see Mr. Tilty thread) got one on herself once and squirrelfriend was able to get it off. Check there to see how. Not having any squirrels like that I didn't really pay attention to what she said. Keep us posted!

How did it go with Beau and the sticky trap???? Use spray cooking oil to get the sticky trap off her back. Or cooking oil will work if you don't have the spray kind.
Hope all is well....let us know something soon.:Love_Icon

It's not going to come off in the rain. I do hope she comes back to you. Meanwhile, as others have said, ditch the sticky traps. Get Havaheart or other humane traps. Carry the mice outside. Everyone will be happier.

So sorry for keeping everyone waiting. I am so busy with all my pets. Anyway I found the sticky trap at the bottom of Beau's tree. I was so relieved!!!! All else is fine and we are coping with the squirrel pox in my area. Horrible disease that is. I'm getting more sulfatrim tomorrow:jump so I can help all the fuzzers. One little guy has got it pretty bad. He's one of Brownies babies. Thanks for being there!

Parapoxvirus? You have red squirrels in Canada?
I haven't heard much about problems with Grays reacting to Parapox, so this is a surprise. Either way, you may want to look for info from Red Squirrel sites in England where they've desperately been trying to deal with this.
If you need links I can search my archives for them. One of the things they do in England is to make sure that if there are any feeders in the area, that they are meticulously sterilized often. That seems to be one vector.
