Hi, I was just wondering if anybody has ever had a female squirrel have really smelly pee. Little Fart has some really potent pee. It doesn't smell like pee though. Sorry, I don't know of any other way of describing it other than it smells like crotch. I would guess her in heat but she is only a spring baby. Any ideas? Oh, and the pee has no coloration that I have noticed yet.
Does she take a long time to go or is straining to go? Does it come in dribs and drabs or a good stream? Is she going more than normal? Is her but wet like she maybe leaking? Is she drinking enough fluids and Getting water rich foods? Sorry so many questions! Need more to go on. :)

no, if I am trying to catch her she will let a big stream out. She did that on my computer chair this morning. pew!

good stream
Is she going more than normal? I don't know
Is her but wet like she maybe leaking? no

I think so. She seems to drink and there is always water in her cage. she eats lots of fruits and vegies.
Everything seems normal except for the smell. Is it possible that she is in heat? Even at this age? That is the only thing I can come up with for the smell.

Sorry you are having a smelly pee problem. Has LF eaten anything different lately....like a new veggie ? Since you were treating her for MBD did you give her any suppliments....in her water or on her food ?
I think she is too young to go into heat....if she is a 07 spring baby then she will go int heat next year....probley in the fall of 08.

the only thing different in her diet is the formula. She had that when she was little though and didn't smell.
I didn't think she was able to go into heat at that young of an age. I just wanted to make sure. They usually have to be at least a year old for that right?
As far as health goes she is very active, and seems fine. Her legs have not fully recovered as of yet but that takes time. Her bloat went down a long time ago. the only thing that seems odd is the smell. Is she normal? Do I just have to get used to the concept that my child is the "smelly" kid in school?:D

With a bladder infection I would see her straining to go pee, urinating a lot but a little at a time. Or trying to pee and nothing coming out.
When she goes she really goes! Being messy is not a problem for her.:D

I think formula makes their pee stink....something awful.....that's just me !!!! But you said it smell like "crotch" :D :D
Did it start smelling foul as soon as you put her back on formula ? If so it may just be that....the formula. How long have you noticed this ?
Keep an eye on her everytime she pees. If it becomes discolored or bloody then it would be a good idea to get her on some meds. But for now just observe. This may pass on it's own. I wouldn't try giving her anything new right now except plain water and formula....just watch for today.
Hope this helps:Love_Icon

Is LF getting any vitamin supplements to treat the MBD? Sometimes the vitamins can make their urine have a strong odor. Also some foods like Asparagus can too. If there is no blood in her urine or straining or to frequent urination then I wouldnt worry about it for now but continue to keep a close eye on her for any changes. Stacey

Also Acorns can give urine a tan and a smell.I hope its not Bladder infection. But if it is she would have problems when peeing..so I dont think its BI..
squirrelfriend, have you tried a litter box? Maybe LF is holding her pee so she doesn't mess up her cage. :dono

No artichokes, acorns or asperagus. no color to urine. I will try the cranberry juice as an antioxidant. couldn't hurt. Good idea. thanks. Litterbox? I would have to find a metal one. She chews EVERYTHING!
Secret Squirrel, you asked about anything new in her diet. I answered "no" earlier but I forgot about walls, bed frames and true crime books.:D do those count?

Would a square Pyrex cake pan work as a litter box? Would a squirrel try to chew on glass????

Most of what squirrels chew on.....are just that......chew on.....and may injest just a tiny bit......I wouldn't worry about the true crime books. She is just trying to be like her Ol' friend Secret Squirrel....:rotfl :rotfl
It won't hurt to try the cranberry as GM suggested. But I don't know what kind is the best. I never had to use it, so I am at a loss.
I would be sure not to load her up on too much "home remedies" at one time. Keep her food basic. Formula and veggies...no nuts or seeds right now until she gets back to 100% . OK maybe 1 almond in the shell a day!!!!:Love_Icon

How is LF and her smelly pee doing??? Just wondering how she is overall. I saw her picks posted in Mr. Tilty's thread. Are those recent pic of her ? Looks like she is getting the use of her back legs back. God bless her!
