Introducing Mr. Cuddles.

We have a new squirrel here at the Squirrel Refuge. He is a spry, but cuddly Eastern Grey. The most amazing thing is he is 14 years old!!! He is very healthy and has had a perfect diet. Unfortunately, the person who had him got him 7 years ago from a woman who was suicidal and she was institutionalized. He has spent the last 7 years with a very caring and dedicated woman, but this woman is having to move out of the country, so Mr. Cuddles ended up with us. We plan on spoiling the heck out of him, during his twilight years, and I wanted to make sure he was introduced to the best Squirrel family in the world, The Squirrel Board. I will post more pictures, as I get them, but wanted to get these out right away.

Right now, we are just letting him settle in. He has a tube that is his nest, but we are going to work on making him a cube, in the next few days. Just being his friend though, is going to be a big thing for him.

I got a quick picture of him after I gave him an almond. I am not taking him out of the cage for a few days, so he can acclimate a bit without the stress.

Oh my -- praise God and all the angels for sending him to you, Michael!! :bow It's sad that he has to make such drastic changes at his age, but I can't think of a better place for him to have landed.

He seriously does NOT look 14. I believe he is the oldest squee we have had here on TSB -- correction, the oldest Grey squee. TSB's original founders, Jim and Trish Eliason, started this board because of their flying squirrel Chipper, who lived to be 15. :Love_Icon

Well, it was looking like he was going to be miserable and depressed here. He didn't want anything to do with me at all. In comes my wife and he brightened up and took to her right away. He is having a love affair with my wife and I love it!!! :Love_Icon

I just spent the last few hours playing with the Old man! It appears that he has accepted me after all! He is still bonkers for my wife, but we played and played with toys and my hand, and then he cuddled into my lap while I scratched his back and cheeks (and got lots of Skitches, you know that scratch on that cheek that makes their arm go up, a cross between a scratch or an itch!) for an hour! I was alone, so I wasn't able to get a camera and take pictures, but I am sure I will have some soon!

Yesterday, Mr Cuddles received a very nice gift package from Auntie Chickenlegs! She made him a wonderful cube, with his name monogrammed on it (you can see the name in the second picture!), as well as a hanging basket for him to lounge on. I had him out, before I even put it in his cage, and he went right in and chilled! :Love_Icon:Love_Icon:Love_Icon HE LOVES IT!!!! :Love_Icon:Love_Icon:Love_Icon She was also nice enough to send a few matching blankets for his nest!! I can't begin to tell you how grateful I am to Pat, for doing this for the old guy!! Here are a couple of pictures, that I took when he was inside the cube, even before I got it in his cage.
