Hello!! I'm new here but not new to raising squirrels. I have raised a few of them. But this is my first pinkie.

Anyway.. I got my self a pinkie a couple weeks ago and he's starting to get his bottom teeth in and is getting his fur In pretty quick.
My question is that he doesn't look like he's gaining the weight he needs. He's eating about 1cc every 3-3 1/2 hrs.
He doesn't seem dehydrated..hes urinating and pooping OK and overall he's pretty active (moving around) his eyes are still closed of course. I weighed him and the scale said 27g. Should I feed him more often?..I don't force feed.. So if he pushes it away I stop and then make him potty. I've seen pics of squirrels on here his age that are alot "fatter" so I'm just concerned that I'm not giving him enough.. Just a fear of over feeding I guess. His formula is that PetAG puppy milk replacer.

PetAg/PetLac is BAD. We have seen many little squirrels die from being fed that.
You need to get Powdered Puppy Esbilac with the third ingredient being dried whey protein. Make
sure you get the powdered.
Take a look at this thread.

He really looks quite skinny to me.
For his weight he should be eating ~ 1.35 and 1.89 every 2 1/2 - 3 hours round the clock.
How long have you had him?
If he gets squirmy, try stimulating, and then go back to feeding.
Never force feed, try stimulating first, sometimes that does the trick.
Keep the formula very warm. Sometimes they stop if it cools off too much.
Get the correct formula and see how he does on that.

I've had him since the 17 of January and he was much smaller. How do you read 1.89 on a syringe? And where can you get the esbilac formula? Stores near me don't carry it.

I may be taking a trip to pet smart tomorrow to get the right formula. In the meantime what can I give him so he doesn't starve?

Tractor Supply, Petco, PetSmart, Walmart and many others carry Esbilac powdered puppy formula. It is absolutely a must to change right now. Do not listen to anyone who tells you that PetAg is the same. It is NOT. Where are you located? Maybe we have someone who can tell you specifically where they carry the formula.

I just remembered there is a pet smart about 15miles from me. The Walmart near me carries the esbilac in liquid form but the other formula in powder.. Doesnt make since if you ask me.

Try a animal feed store or a veterinary clinic I have known both to carry it. Amazon and eBay too. Keep us posted on his progress..

Just an update. I switched to that esbilac formula about two weeks or so ago and now Tick is up to 52gs and is eating about 2 1/2 to 3cc about every 3hrs or so. His bottom teeth have completely came through and is very wiggly/active. He should open his eyes within the next week or so and I'm so excited!! And yes he likes to sleep in this position sometimes :grin3:laugh2
