Sometime back I posted a question about my picky eaters. After trying all the different Henry's varieties, I found they will only eat the Wild Bites. But this morning, I found a post that said these should not be fed as an only diet for NR. That they are too high in phosphorus?? I've been feeding them these consistently for almost a year! They eat them plain, and then I use the daily leftovers for their boo balls. Do I need to stop them immediately? Or gradually transition them?
I also wanted to ask, as far as boo balls go , if these (Wild Bites) blocks have a lot of nuts in them already (they seem to?), should I cut back on the portion of nuts the recipes call for ( usually 100g)?
Last question, did the official cookbook ever make it to a sticky ? I found the original thread, but was curious if there's a consolidated version somewhere?

Thanks! Snickers, Doodles, and Dandy's mom

Where is this claim made? I do not believe that Henry's makes ANY squirrel food that is out of whack in the calcium : phosphorus levels. The "concern" about the wild bites is, I believe, that the glycemic load is a little higher than that of the other diets. Squirrels in nature are pretty low carb.

I would suggest sending a note to Henry's and asking this question.

OK, again I will disagree on the ca : ph levels. But I was serious about sending an email to Henry's and asking them. The woman who owns Henrys is a member here, and a squirrel person - it isn't a big faceless organization. Ask and tell us what she says.

Can't comment on the wild bites, but in regards to the cookbook thread, pretty sure there's only that one.

I have three young squirrels that I am keeping in for the winter and planning for spring release. I am feeding them Henry's Healthy Blocks for Wild Squirrels. The Wild Bites protein base is peanuts and is less expensive than Henry's Blocks with pecans. There are MANY varied opinions out there and someone mentioned that the Henry's blocks are "over supplemented" and I shouldn't use them. I'd like to know what anyone with more experience than me thinks of the nutrition label on the Wild Bites and if I can feed as instructed on the package. The babies love them. I'm worried about the calcium/phosphorous ratio and if this is a safe product. They also eat Mazuri Rodent Block, vegetables, fruit and nuts.

This is exactly how misinformation gets spread! http://www.sherv.net/cm/emoticons/hand-gestures/forehead-slap-smiley-emoticon.gif
Someone says this, someone says that, someone repeats it!
Varied opinions without any real facts or knowledge to support the garbage they spew.

ALL HHB's were developed specifically for squirrels and their nutritional requirements.

Talked to the owner of Henry's; she said the Wild Bites are fine, balanced etc for NR and wild squirrels. She also said that with these foods (Henry's formulas) , sunlight is not needed to metabolize/provide the vitamins; it's all in the food.
