8 week old male possible UTI?

Hi all, my 8 week old male Eastern grey, Louie, has been having a very red/swollen penis for the past couple of days. I attempted to wrap him up with medical gauze, but he managed to get out of it. I did not ask for help because I thought it might heal on its own if I gave him more formula snacks during the day (to lessen his sucking). This morning I have noticed that it has SCABBED at the end. I know this is a big warning for an upcoming UTI/infection and I was wondering what I should do to make him heal? Thanks in advance!

PS: He eats esbilac with the probiotics and prebiotics 3 times a day (16cc's each time). He also gets 1 Henry's block a day.

You need to soften that scab and remove it, apply an ointment like ss cream or neosporin.
This is not just an opening for a uti it can become life threatening with urine backing up into
his kidneys. I would suggest feeding 4x a day.
What does he weigh?
Edit: At this point he may already need to be treated with anti biotics.
What may you have on hand if any?

Thanks for the info! I will get the scab off and apply ointment. I won't be able to get his weight until I get home tonight, but I will weigh him as soon as I get there! All I have at home is Cipro.

UPDATE: just took him out for a feeding and he has gotten his scab off! And there is quite a bit of blood.

What is the milligram of the cipro and it's pill form correct?
I wouldn't second guess a uti at this point. Might you also have
some infant ibuprofen? He has to be experiencing pain and obvious inflammation.
Hopefully if we can address both he may stop bothering it to give ab's a chance
to kick in. Definetly keep ointment on it as his urine will burn raw tissue, is he able to pee?
Have you observed him going yet?

He is currently right around 160g. The cipro is a 250mg pill. And I can get the infant ibuprofen tomorrow. I saw him pee yesterday but haven't watched him long enough today to know. I made him a sock diaper and that seems to stay on better than the gauze and I put neosporin on him. Thanks again!

Be very careful if using silvadene on the penis opening. I know a rehabber who used it and had the penis heal closed...:eek I am asking her what she used on it because I can't remember...:shakehead

Cloves are a main ingredient in squirrel repellent sold at Tractor Supply. Try putting ground cloves around his genital area, but don't occlude his urethral opening. I've successfully used this numerous times to deter nursing.

Got a reply to my question and the suggestion is A & D ointment or even just a TINY bit of vaseline around the end of the penis.

No, it is not...
Silvadene is generic for Silver sulfadiazine.
It is a topical sulfonamide/silver antibacterial ointment.
