7 year old squirrel
history
we raised him from a baby,he lived outside for two years, wild. came back with a head injury, ended up paralyzed for a week, then bounced back to almost normal, lived in the house with us since. now 5 years later he is very very sick.
he stopped eating in august, stopped getting out of bed, seemed to be in a lot of pain had to force feed him with a syringe. been treating for mbd with calcium and he was to getting better, walked around, not much pain.

but each time he gets worse again..rollercoaster.

at this point his apetite is much better than it was, though he'll only eat milk (esbilac).... no nuts nothing else, but at least he laps up the milk when i feed him, its not a drop by drop struggle like before.
anyway he was doing better,a little more active, climbing, still sleeping all day, but at least he'd get out of bed, and he didn't seem to be in much pain, eating solids. he was getting better.

then yesterday morning, he's suddenly much worse, in pain, squeaks when you touch him. one leg he wont use (back leg). the foot on that leg is very warm and kind of pink. the skin on that leg has a bluish tint up to the thigh where it becomes a normal white colour again...

unsure if i should be still treating for mbd.. its been so long, what if i give him kidney stones? ( or something) hes on a high dose of calcium( for a couple months now).... lowered it a bit but got scared with the foot so now it's back up to emergency levels.
it's such a prolonged illness. how to get him back to his feet and stable? im not even sure whats wrong..

While we wait for some one with more experience with MBD I want to make sure you have him on a heating pad set to low (covered with fleece) so your squirrel doesn't have to work so hard trying to maintain his own body heat while he is down and out.

Keep up the Esbilac with Probiotics and offer some applesauce or fist stage baby food if you cannot get him to eat any other fruits or vegetables.

I will be Praying and sending Healing Vibes. ♡

I don't where to even begin on this but for a start I'm moving to emergency to get more eyes on it...

The questions I have is on what kind of calcium and how much have you been giving how often?
Yes, too much calcium can cause stones. Do you know if he is able to pass urine and what is the color of it?
The leg is a concern, obviously the blue is a bruise but with mbd bones are brittle so possibly a break/fracture
especially being allowed to climb. Has he been given anything for pain? Is he on heat?

You say he stopped eating in Aug, what did his diet consist of before he quit eating?
If he'll only drink formula now what condition are his teeth in, could they be an issue? Maybe too long?

I would definitely get him on something for pain and supply him some heat until this can be figured out.
Infant Ibuprofen can be given but we need to know a weight to dose or at least post a picture for an educated guess.
Do try and check out his teeth so we can address it or rule it out.

I am wondering if his old injury involved nerves in the back/spine, and this is causing him pain now -- especially with a lack of good circulation to that one leg (blueish color). Almost the way sciatica travels from your back down one leg to the foot? Yes ibuprofen would be a great thing for this poor guy....and limit his climbing ability for awhile so he doesn't keep re-injuring himself. :(
