I have a couple questions...
Peaches is doing great, shes eating 14-15 cc every 5-6 hours now. She weighs about 175g. Is this amount of milk ok for her age and weight?I still have her on a heating pad, upgraded her to a small bird cage. I put some tree limbs in for her to climb on, and she chews on them. Her eyes opened a week ago last tuesday, so im guessing shes 5-6 weeks old, shes not holding her tail up yet.
My questions are;
I cant find primate of monkey chow...what else can i get for her?

After she eats, I always make her potty, now shes getting to where she doesnt want me to do this. She has peed on her own i know, but ive not seen any poop in her cage. When will she start doing this on her own?

What is the proper way to let her know, biting is a no no?

Shes grown so much in 2 weeks.
Thanks everyone for all your help :Love_Icon:Love_Icon:Love_Icon

I've attached a couple of links for feeding type questions. I use Henry's healthy blocks as they are made for squirrels with the exact nutrition they need. Teddy fought me a little with his potty time once his eyes were open. It may just take her a bit longer to poop on her own. Teddy's eyes had been open for a week or so when he started pooing on his own. Is she biting during play time? I say owwwie and pull my hand away when Teddy nibbles and then he stops and licks me. Hopefully others can chime in with their knowledge.

I think of the play nibbles like puppy mouthing. Teddy did a number on my leather boot, I then realized that he has the ability to really hurt me if he wanted. When Teddy is playing too rough for me I'll grab one of his balls or stuffed animals so he can nibble on that but still play with me. I've also pulled my hands inside the sleeves of my hoodie (Teddy's Hoodie) which is a requirement before bringing him out to protect from scratches. It has a little pouch up front that opens from the top like a kangaroo and he loves it. The fleece lined pouch is removable for easy cleaning. Hands down favorite Teddy investment lol. Teddy doesn't like when his play mates (my hands) run away. That's about the extent of my experiences with Teddy's nibbling. I hope something here is helpful.

They love stuffies. Make sure you get the ones safe for babies, no buttons or plastic eyes to pull off and choke on. And Milos Mom has stuffies on bungee cords that are really cool. I have 2 lame ones that I made and Percy plays with them every day.

The amount of formula (you mean formula, Esbilac or FV 20/50, and not cow's milk?) is okay, but I would stick closer to every 5 hours at her age (the only exception could be overnight).

Is the bird cage large enough to hang a cubby from the top? She'll transfer from the "floor " and the heating pad to the cubby, and you will know that soon afterwards you can remove the heating pad.

Block:

I am not necessarily suggesting you purchase from these sites; I just want you to be able to see what the bag looks like so that when you go hunting you can find it easier.

The first, Oxbow Regal Rat, is a good quality food but many squirrels just plain don't like it. It may be worth a try - of the pet store foods it is certainly the best quality: http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?pcatid=16965

The second is more or less acceptable - it is not a high quality food but if they will eat it, it isn't awful: Kaytee Forti-Diet: http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?pcatid=29822

Of course your very best bet, for taste and quality, are the Henry's foods: http://www.henryspets.com/squirrel-diet/. They are only available online.

They usually can potty on their own after eyes open; continuing to potty her as long as she allows goes a long ways to keeping her cage clean and less odoriferous!

Have her upper teeth (incisors) come in? She may need to teethe if not. Squirrels explore the world with their teeth, so teaching her biting is a no-no is counter intuitive to her.

Are you planning on releasing her?

How do you teach her not to bite? We pull our fingers away when she starts nibbling..Have apple wood sticks handy.
I made her a hammick in the cage, she does sleep in it.
Shes 213g and seems to be stuck at that weight for the last couple of days. She eats about 15cc every 5-6 hours now. She eats the Esbalic milk.

Sounds like she needs to teethe to help those upper teeth erupt. The Esbilac is the powdered version (just wanting to make absolutely certain!).

Peeing through the bars like that is very common... Consider buying a cheapo shower curtain to use under the cage to catch the pee. Eventually she is likely to pee on you through the bars...

Baby squirrels are so cute and sweet sometimes it is difficult to understand that they are wild animals. As they get older they often make this very evident. The questions about training to not pee through the bars (which is to say convince them to pee inside their own house?) and not biting fingers are (IMO) misdirected for a wild squirrel. Very few make good pets, and even then they are almost always a single person animal and do and will attack other people.

The wrestling, and yes, the biting during play time is a normal part of their development and learning skills to survive. Since you have a singleton, it would be good if you could wrestle and play with her (often). Wear gloves if you need to.
