Hi Everyone,
Little Baby (LB) has a growth on her head. It started as a lump and the vet thought it was a cyst, so he attempted to aspirate fluid but to no avail. He concluded that it was a malignant growth. He sent LB home with amoxicillin "just in case" and meloxicam. Immediately after his attempt to aspirate fluid the growth became very large. I didn't think she'd live much more than a few weeks but its been 5 months since this began. She seems to feel fine and still eats well, however, the growth has closed one nostril making breathing more difficult. And it appears to be growing out from her lip. Again, while it looks bad... she seems to feel well. I've asked Patti (Hrtz4sqlz) to advise on possible medications. Any other ideas...???
I will attach pictures (hopefully!).
Thanks, Pam

Is anyone able to view these pictures? I cannot.

I can see the pics. That doesn't look good at all. In the second pic I can also see a bump under her left eye. Are you sure there isn't infection in that lump? The lump close to her nose is hard to get a good look at but it looks bad. I would suggest another vet visit. Maybe try a different vet?? If the original bump wasn't infection she could have an infection now and that's what is forming under her eye. Poor baby!!
Hopefully someone with more knowledge will chime in.

I would take her back to the Vet. Get an x-ray of her head and make sure it has nothing to do with her teeth. If it is some kind of infection he needs to swab it and do a culture and sensitivity on it to find out which antibiotic will work on it. Just because he didn't get fluid out of it the first time does not mean it's not an infection. Cysts sometimes have to ripen in order to have fluid. They start as inflamed tissue and progress to fluid and pus. Whatever it is, I would have her on Batril at this point. And if it is a malignant growth he can do a needle aspirate where you just get enough tissue from a needle for a slide and send it to pathology.

Hello Everyone,
Thank you all for your support and concern.
I am in contact with the owner of LB, and have asked if it would be possible for them to bring LB back to the vet this week, they live two hours away. Patti has recommended another, more suitable antibiotic (clindamycin) for LB but she must see the vet to get it. Just to be certain, I will contact the vet personally to see if I can get the antibiotic and overnight it to them wrapped in ice packs... but I'm reasonably sure they will want to see LB first. :p
Thanks guys -
Pam

Thank you all for your help with my precious baby. She is a fighter! She just wants to live!!! She has shown no signs of death;no slowing down whatsoever. The "tumor" on her mouth has quit growing, but now where the vet went in to check for an abscess on the original place is swollen, and there is one place that has pus that occasionally will ooze, and a strange odor! That's where my friend and I are thinking infection! I am working with my vet and Pam's vet to get her in ASAP.
It could be cancer, like we were told, but I'm not so sure, and so I will personally keep you updated! Thank you all so much!

Hi Everyone -
Little Baby's (LB) mom got the antibiotics that Patti recommended for LB, and treatment has begun! I was actually very impressed with the vet at a wildlife clinic that they used. The wildlife clinic worked hard to understand WHY those particular antibiotics were being requested AND they actually sent the meds via mail without demanding that they take LB back for another exam. FINALLY a place that understands difficult situations and is willing to work with the wildlife caregiver regardless of some legal status. Hats off to them!
Now, we need some prayers sent their way... :Love_Icon
Thanks everyone!
