Hey everyone,

I have gone on two vacations since rescuing our little one and he has come with us (once at 5 weeks and another last weekend (9 weeks). We will be going out of town (going on an airplane) when he is 12 weeks old. The trip will be 4 days (leaving Thursday morning and back Sunday night) He is at the age where he is attached to only myself and my fiance, so I'm worried about leaving him. I want to go ahead and start preparing now. I will have his meals prepared in the refrigerator in individual containers for the babysitter to put in there twice per day and will have her add some squirrel blocks every meal also. I will leave fresh water in the water bottles and will make sure the entire cage is as spotless as I can make it. He has a nest box at the top of his cage with a fleece blanket.

Is there anything in particular that squirrels LOVE to play with that will distract him a little? He has antlers and other wooden chew toys. He has large rope to climb up and down on and the entire cage is 1/2" wire mesh so he can climb all around (6 ft tall, 4 ft wide, 2 ft deep). I will put some fresh oak tree branches in there also. Maybe a hammock?

He is very reluctant to eat his formula in the morning (only formula feeding now), so I'm fairly confident that he will be weened by the time we leave next weekend - I really hope so.

He has met the babysitter before a couple of times, but it's been about 3-4 weeks since he last saw her. What is the best way to prepare for this? I wish we could just take him!

They love stuffed animals! Even single ones wrestle and tug on them as if it were their best buddy... or worst enemy! lol I like to get 5-6 small ones (4-6 inches long) and sew them together end to end to make a long chain and/or hang from the top or drape across one side. Be sure to get the ones with only sewn eyes, nose etc. rather than plastic, and without inserts like squeakers, and no beans - just regular stuffing and nothing else. And do this BEFORE you leave to be sure he's made friends with new buddies SAFELY!
