My lil guy is going to the vet for loose, smelly stools.
The vet is not familiar with squirrels. What should I do/not do with the dr? Should I be worried? Should I not let them do anything? How about meds, what should I try to get for him? Can a vet give him anything?
Please help as he's due to go in soon.
Thanks
Rob

If the vet is going to test the stool ( do you still have today's sample?) and can identify the problem...get some BAYCOX PILLS--THEN T.S.B. will help you with the proper dose--based on weight.

If it is coccidia they may give Baycox or Albon (an older treatment that is more common), but if it is a different parasite it may be a different treatment. Be sure, before you go to the vet, that he is not going to the the squirrel because of legalities.

So I got Miracle 2 the vet. Everything went good with no signs of coccidia, there was a little bit of giardia along with strongyle eggs. They gave me panacur liquid @2.5cc for 5 days with a recheck in 10 days.
Lmk what u guys think. His weight is at 515 grams
Thanks

What is the strength of the med?

2.5cc is a HUGE unless it is really diluted. Are you sure that is what it says?

Yeah if the strength is 100 mg/ml the dose should be .25 mLs.
Hope this is a typo as vets usually try to give the least amount in volume.
OR
Perhaps the vet put the med. in a syringe in the amount of 2.5 but they acutally
give .25 daily. I know I've seen that before on the board where instead of a bottle
of suspension, the vet gives a syringe. :shakehead

Sorry, it's .02cc's there was no strength on the pre-measured syringes.
I can call the vet back tomorrow if u think I should wait to administer the meds

Just so you can see what we're talking about.
This is from the Wild Mammal Babies Book.
I suspect that your vet gave you a higher strength so
that you can dose the least amount.
I would think you're safe giving the dose your vet measured out for you tonight.
Call tomorrow and ask what strength they gave you, ok?
