I went out to feed my kids in the release cage tonight, and noticed one young lady, Fern, has a cloudy swollen eye (left) I thinking maybe an injury from tussling with her cage mates. Do you recommend starting her on an antibiotic? I haven't weighed her since she moved outside. I think she was around 186 gms 2 weeks ago. I do have cephalexin 500 mg. 2 capsules. would this work?279422279423 Thanks for any help!

I would recommend applying some Terramycin ointment
to the injured eye three times a day.... for a week, 7 days.

*You can purchase this at your local pet store.

Oh this poor little peanut.
How old is she?
What was/is her diet like?
I have seen squirrels like this with the white
when they have had a diet lacking in some nutrients.
Once they get on a great diet it sometimes goes away.
Is that hay in the release cage?
If so it holds the moisture and can result in mold.
I would get that out quickly if it is, mold can kill.
She is one precious looking baby. :Love_Icon

Violet is approx 11-12 wks old. She's been fed 50/50 esbilac and fox valley 20/50 . She still gets formula in a dish 1× a day. She gets HHB's 2× a day and fresh veggies and a small amount of fruit and nuts. That is hay. I will take it out! What type of bedding do you use outside . Her eye wasn't like that before she moved outside, so I'm thinking an injury?

Do you think she'll lose vision in this eye?

We will not know until the eye is treated.
I have treated a few with Terramycin and
they all recovered with complete eye sight.

I found the Terramycin ointment at Fleet Farm and started treatment today. Can't say she loves getting it done, but I'm hoping for a complete recovery in that eye! Thanks for your help!
