Just curious on how much squirrels sleep normally at different ages. I have 2 baby gray squirrels that are almost 7 weeks old now & all they do is sleep. They may play for about 2 minutes around feeding but then its lights out. I can't imagine squirrels in the wild sleeping that much. I know babies sleep a lot but do they ever stop and if so at what age.

Your babies are normal and doing what most baby squirrels do....... SLEEP!! --don't worry there will be plenty of time for play as they grow and play they will do.

We have a 4 week old baby boy squirrel his eyes just opened all the way 2 days ago, that fell out of our tree and was cold and crying but then he stopped crying and appeared to have shallow breathing and was lifeless. Our puppy Thor loves babies and brought him to us very carefully. We inspected him, and he appeared to have no wounds or blood.
Since we have warmed him, hydrated him, and started him on Formula until our Fox Valley gets here tomorrow. He is much more hungry and doing a lot better. Already gained 15 g in four days. He is 118 g as of yesterday.
My question is all he does is sleep. We wake him up for feedings and love on him stimulate him which he goes potty in his bed instead of when we stimulate him. Is this normal?
He’s in a plastic storage box with deep sides and has a heating pad under the box hallway with a fleece blanket inside and a beanie he likes to snuggle into to sleep. We also have a lid with holes for his safety. When should we move him to a real cage?
In my area there aren’t any licensed wildlife rehabilitators all we have is a Humane Society where they put them down. So we are doing our best to help him thrive and work toward a release . I have raised dozens of litters of kittens and two litters of puppies. But this is our first squirrel baby any advice that you have would be gladly accepted.
