Hey everyone again!

I found myself pondering a new question. Ricky's eyes are opened, but he's obviously nervous with seeing so much around him now. So my question is what is recommended for him to be more comfortable and is there a way to train him to come to his name or me? When I'm home, I carry him as much as possible. Typically when I'm at work, I bring him with me and his cage. Luckily I work somewhere that allows to come in and stay with me.

My fear is he'll never get use to me and always be scared. I really want to train him, but I of course don't want to push him. I'm so torn haha. I keep thinking like it's a guy that never calls you back from a first date. Is it me? Is there hope for me? I've had Ricky since he was 2 weeks old and he's now 5 weeks going on to 6.

Thanks again friends!!

I don't know how well you can actually "train" a squirrel. They are kind of like cats in that they do their own thing. It's normal though for him to be skittish for a few days after his eyes have opened. That usually passes pretty quick and they realize you are where they get the formula from and their whole attitude changes. At this age though it's still mostly eat and sleep with a little playtime mixed in. Just play with him and give lots of cuddles. I am assuming you have a grey and some have been kept as pets but most wild up and can become very destructive and aggressive.

:pI wrote something similar weeks ago:

Hi guys! I want to update you on Frances. She opened her eyes on Tuesday and now she's growling (what's the word for it?) at me and everything. I am reassuring her and it seems to be helping, but I can't help but to think she hates me and only tolerates me for her feedings. I'll kill her with kindness and she'll love me someday. :grin2

And:

Also, because she didn't get over growling at me all of the time once her eyes opened, I am bringing her to snuggle with me each night while I play on the computer. Last night she licked my arm for a while before passing out with her slobbery mouth open. (OMG, so cute!) I will say, she is nothing like Basil, the boy, who is the most relaxed, outgoing and fearless little man ever. Last night I heard her growling and fussing and looked down and she had her huge eye right next to my toe, which I was apparently moving, and then she attacked it. (Calm down Frances.)

Anyway, that phase only lasted about a week and a half. She is 10 weeks now and she rides on my shoulder, lays in her cage so that she can face me and stares at me all day and comes when I call her name (4-5 times in a row). I just kept up the love and didn't get my feelings hurt too much when she rebuffed me and now she's my sweet little buddy.
